3 plugs - perfect tan color, 1 plug - dry fluffy carbon

OK the results. Tested each cyl 3x.
#1 119 psi
#2 130
#3 125
#4 127
Dripped a bit of oil into cyl #1. Compression increased 6psi. Hopefully tight valves NOT rings? Thougths?

 

#1 has been the problem cyl with fouled plug.

The mixture seat is damaged in #1 carb

i think Squirrel had it right about the mixture screws and my money is on a bad seat in the number 1 carb body...Here's why:

This problem has been going on over several threads for many months.

As i recall the carbs were removed and cleaned at least a dozen times and the bike would still run and foul plugs even with the mixture screws ALL THE WAY CLOSED--later we found out it did not have the correct inlet needles (too short) and was flooding.

Later a California carb set was sent to the rescure, but instead of using them, they are canabalized to get the correct inlet needles (why not just swap the entire set to elimunate defective carbs?)

So this solved the mysterious flooding issue and now 3 mixture screws function properly by killing the engine when closed, but one does not--wonder how many dozens of times that #1 screw has been turned in and out trying to fix the plug fouling? The seat is stretched out and no longer working.

Of course I would have done that. Cally carbs have many more tubes and bores for those tubes in places NOT the same as mine. Once they were on the bike a mess of tubes would have no place to go and that made no sense.

kennybobby not sure what your point of content might be. So I have a chronic problem with the bike. Well it takes as long as it takes. Point is I have learned huge amounts thanks to these forums and everyones knowledge. I think asking questions, for however long, is a good thing.
