1998 VFR 800 FI Interceptor - trying to buy a new chain for it but I am seeing conflicting replacement chains on the Internet. I know it is a 530 BUT not sure if it's 108 links or 120?!
The service manual for my 1998 VFR states on page 3-20 that the standard links are 108. You are seeing 120 because that is what a normally comes in a box of off the shelf chain. Then you have to cut it to length. Gonna need a chain tool if you don't have one. If you have a lot of miles on the chain it's probably a good idea to replace the sprockets too. I have always done mine as a set.
Get yourself an x-ring chain. The D.I.D. one is probably the best(and consequently most expensive) out there. I settled for an EK x-ring for around 100 bucks and it has been great for the last 8k miles. Stay away from the R.K. chains, they just don't last and are unfortunately an OEM supplier for honda.
