Maybe a smoke windscreen, and leave the front fairing alone. That might give you the contrast you are looking for. Or maybe you don't like contrast. Front fairings are not cheap, and if you don't like it in the end, its an expensive endeavor. Plus the cost of mailing.

As for black or yellow cowl, I choose not to decide.

if it were me, i would continue the contrast to the fender, maybe a diamond pattern so when you look down on it, it looks like it mirrors the cowel. but it does look better!let us know what your doing and post more pics!

You are totally right. I looked at the tail section during lunch and the contours of the fairing would be perfect for a black overlay there as well.. My gears are turning..

I just wrapped my vfr with a similar theme. The process could be done in a day with a friend but for me it took like two weeks between work and school and the gf. here is a link to my bike Wrapping the VFR - Imgur

 

Beware of clones.

 

You can always use electricians tape. That is even cheaper than vinyl wrap. Make sure you run the tape front to back. Side to side the ridges will cause wind resistance and extra wear on your engine.
