Just curious, could you hack it to have a 6,5,3,4,5,6 readout? Seems like that would make the gear indicator a little more useful in the bottom 3 gears.

I believe some people have done just that; I believe it simply requires a bit more splicing into the loom (you're tapping multiple strands perhaps). ...mine was done by Bazzaz for the Z-Bomb (which I think is STILL unavailable) and they weren't interested in doing it that way when I brought it up.

I had been sitting on the 10 vfr1200 every chance I got for last year and a half at my local dealer. Fell in love with the comfort ( I'm 6'4 255 ) and the looks of it. So I went out and bought a 04 a little over a year ago. Loved it. But on 3 Nov my house burned down with the VFR, my ktm450sx, 68 camaro ss, 07 mustang gt and many other toys inside. So I started looking at that same 2010 VFR. Found em online for $9900 and my shop dropped it to $10,499. I offered em $10,800 out the door, which is basically $9800 for the bike and they took it. That was 3 weeks ago and only put 40 miles on her due to Houston weather, but much more soon.

88SILVERGT, sorry to read of your losses. I hope you had good insurance. The lost off a 68 Camaro SS would make a manly man cry.

I know for a fact that there is a major dealer in Sydney who employs people like that and I also know of at least one person who works for Honda Australia who doesn't ride, knows nothing about motorcycles and only applied for the job "because it was a job". - Those sort of people really piss me off.

It sounds like you got a great deal, I cant imagine tha the vfrs can go much lower and even if they do just try to find one with in a reasonable distance. Enjoy

Yea, it still stings. Had spent 7 years and $40k+ on it. Was finally finished and didnt even get to hear it run. I picked up a 67 shell from a friend and dropped it at a shop to get body panels replaced due to rust. Then its going to a chassis shop to get fully backhalfed/tubbed for 18x18 rear wheels with 29x18x18 tires. Will be a street car that looks really tough. Got a LS6/6 speed drivetrain with heads/cam/intake making just over 500hp. Eventually I will make my own turbo kit for it and make around 600 at the wheels. Nothing crazy.

As for the fire, yes I got my wife and 2 year old daughter out in time thank god. Will take another 6 months before they finish building my house again but things are getting better here in a rent house for now.

I have installed the Bazzaz Z-bomb ...that thing is the bomb! The bike runs much better at the start, Takeoffs are smooth and fun. Since my previous bike had no gear indicator seeing 3,3,3,4,5,6 doesn't bother me one bit.

Yeah you should still call Honda customer service and complain about it. I have have the Z bomb too. It is a work around not a fix. Honda Should Fix It.

This is just my wild guess as to what Honda is doing. Not based on any facts. Price drop is to clear old inventory before new model arrives. Bad mapping of first and second gear is to keep liability down and prevent goofs from losing it while spinning up the rear tire in corners. Problem will be solved with New Model "Selectable Traction Control". This is the perfect update for the 1200 and it will solve all the problems! Remember this is just my guess. Lets see what happens!

Yeah but the second gear has never had a linear power band the power band would drop extra power when I don't need it and give me no power when I'm expecting it. When did it become OK for Honda to put out crap. The 1, 2 stock map will show at second gear you power is being forced down. What does letting off the gas in a turn do?? anyone Bueller Bueller. You will run wide. The second gear map effectively lets off the gas.(Let off in power)

Bazzaz Came up with a work around with the Z-Bomb.

If every rider that owned this would lodge complaints with Honda the problem may get fixed officially. One it force them to identify the problem in official response.(While Honda may read the complaints, suggestions, and praises on the Web boards pertaining to this bike it is un-official.) Obviously the UK got something going on because Honda released a new map why complaints to corp Honda and through the dealer network. Two never assume the US dealer network is working. If your dealer tells you nothing wrong with the bike. Are they going to fix it??? No because Honda told us that is the way this bike was set up.

This should not have needed to be an aftermarket fix. Honda Corp if gotten enough complaints about it would fix it. It is not in the tradition of the VFR line to be cutting edge and Restricted...... Hmmm I see a problem with that statement doesn't anybody agree?

I understand aftermarket fueling as EPA and (California Air Resource Board)Carb. Rule what these companies can do to the fueling and emissions.

With the bazzaz Z-bomb this problem is removed. Again Kudos to Bazzaz for the plug and play Z-bomb. Shame on honda for calling this cutting edge. There is nothing Cutting EDGE tech about clipping the first two gears and they clearly fixed it with the traction control that wasn't ready in 2010 on the 2012 motorcycle.

I urge people to call or write.. This would pertain to people owning the bike in the first year of buying the motorcycle. The more you call the better it gets because you give them more data. They track mileage and dates and start a running file on the problem I did so about the same time the pushed the 2012 out. Have called to give them updates on the problem what it seems to do almost every other month. Like run wide because the power delivery in the 3-5k RPM range is crap. I constantly fight the line of this bike in the canyons @ that RPM range in 2nd gear.

Hey, at least you have canyons to fight with buddy, I'm going on a trip to the dragon soon for my fix of that. If I owned a 7th gen I'd surely be with you on the mapping issue but I'm currently super happy about my 99 and don't plan to get rid of it.
