I just bought a 1992 VFR750 on the weekend. In fact it is featured in the 2012 VFRworld calendar for October. It is totally stock with the exception of a K&N air filter. It's in good working order and really doesn't need anything, which is good because I don't have much money to throw at it. Being new to VFRs, are there any inexpensive mods or aftermarket parts that are worth doing?

    So far I'm thinking:
    - swap out the red rear turn signals for amber ones, or I was even considering going clear all around (although they seem pretty pricey, and ideas where to get them cheap?)
    - find some frame sliders to protect the mint body work (any ideas who makes some for this year?)
    - new battery (what type would you suggest?)

Eventually maybe upgrade the suspension and exhaust, but I don't think I can afford that right now.

I'm sure I'll be spending some time on this forum. Seems like a great resource so far.

If yah install frame sliders on that bike I am gona personally come up to the great white north and kick your arse!!!! Dont molest that beautiful granite blue body work fer gawds sake!!!

A nice mod is to get rid of those ugly turn signals in the back and integrate them into the rear tail lights. Go thru your electrics, R/R connections, stator connections, make sure they aint burnt out.

I am serious about installing frame sliders, I can get up there in half a day and hit yah in dah bread basket if you do a stupid thing like that...

ridervfr, don't hold back man... it's not good for your blood pressure. Haha!

vfr750guy, that is a nice bike. The electrical suggestions are good ones. The frame sliders for that bike are expensive and you do have to cut your body panels to do it right. I priced them a couple of years ago for my '98 and it was about $240.

For suspension upgrades to your bike get in touch with Jamie at: jamie@daughertymotorsports.com

Thanks for the warm welcome rider Vfr! I am not the type to mod the heck out of my bikes. This is my 4th bike, and I have never changed anything that I can't change back to stock. I've never dumped a bike, but that's not to say it won't happen in the future, no matter how good a rider i am. Looking at the number of Franken-vfrs, and the cost and rarity of a decent set of replacement fairings, I would consider adding some protection to the bike. I'd rather cut a couple small holes than have to piece together my fairings with zap straps. However I don't know that I will just because of the expense. I wish there were a different way. Again, if I were to mod the fender, I would just buy a fender eliminator, keeping the stock part intact and allowing me the ability to go back to stock if I decided to do so.

Thanks for the other replies. I will be sure to check out the electrical.

OK, replace your rear lenses with the amber lenses from a 94-97 and make them your turn signals.

Make sure electrical system is fine and ride it. Shocks from Jamie are a good idea, and there are aftermarket shocks. Bebuild front suspension with heavier springs and fluid, new bushings. Windscreen depending on taste/height. Seat upgrade, definitely.

    Ride it.
