alright i know you guys aren't big on street fightering VFR's but... it's a 1996 750 Cali spec i got it cheap cause it has no plastic at ALL. so i removed all the Air suction stuff and fuel evap and controls. any one else done this? what to use to block the holes by the exhaust ports? any problems with this?

    Make aluminum block off plates.
You wanna send all that emmisions garbage my way?
(I live in one of only two counties in the US that actually emissions tests motorcycles, and getting it to pass HC is iffy with it all removed.)

i'll get some pic up of it as it sits now soon. but i definitely put some up when i get it done. getting a stock one piece tail section from Air-tech and a RC-51 tail light cause the tail comes without the light housing cut. still need to pick up a seat on the cheap. hoping to get it up and done within 3 weeks so.

My Hawk GT is a california model. I did this very thing to remove the ACV (Air Control Valve) and PCV (Purge control valve), trying to correct a mysterious poor-milage problem. I imagine the systems are similar. By the way, this project is known as "de-smogging" your bike.

It was mostly straightforward... I blanked off the piston ports with a set of "smog caps" (racer lingo) that a guy on the Hawk Listserv gave me. They were made by Two Brothers, for this very purpose. You could also put plugs on those metal tubes and band-clamp them. I ended up doing this to my front port, because the frame was in the way of the mounting bolts. Wasn't about to pull the motor over this...

You can also go to an auto parts store and get an assortment of vacuum hose plugs. Those did the trick for me.

So after I capped the piston ports, then I removed the big ugly ACV on the side of the motor, and pulled all the hoses. After that, use common sense. Plug the stuff that needs to be under negative pressure, and let the other stuff breathe. Plug the port on the bottom of the airbox, and all the the ports on the carbs (on the throats leading to the pistons)... WITH the exception of the float bowl vents. Those need to be able the breathe, but remember to run the hoses to an area that won't be hit by gusts of wind, otherwise the negative pressure will interfere with the whole fuel-induction thing going on in the float bowls.

Comically enough, when I was done, and put the bike back together, it wouldn't start. I was pissed. I SWORE I knew what I was doing... I took the tank back off, pulled the airbox, and checked all my plugged ports. Put it back together... still nothing. That's when I realized... the petcock valve was off. D'oh. After that, it worked fine and my fuel milage went back up to where it should have been.

thanks, i got it all off and plugged. still need to get/make some block off plates. since it's naked i thought that using the steel lines with plugs would ulgy it up that much more. it's a bit of work trying to clean up a viffer with out the plastic's to hide it all. shortening the wiring harness and tucking between the frame rails behind the steering head. remounting the rad and oil cooler. got gafler braided lines today(red to add some color) and thier street pads. can't afford thier rotors but if i had a big budget would do a R1 fork swap any way, but for now... got K&N filter, 2 brother pipe(need to knock out the cat's still) and a two beam streetfighter light with mini signals. waiting on my airtech tail to come and a RC51 tail light i'm gonna mold in cause airtech come uncut. wanna do the cbr929 rear shock but got to wait. also 520 converison with a 15tooth front sproket next. still looking for a tach. gonna use bicycle speedo and autmotive temp gauge.

I'll be driving a old silver/gray dodge diesel and wearing an orange AZTrackday shirt, a big stupid floppy hat and an oil drum of a soda pop. I might be putzing around on an old CT-90 Honda (orange, of course) I'm only gonna be there from around 0800 to 1300.
    Oh, yeah. I'm OLD!
