I am having a 6000 mi service. What a reasonable charge? I was going to take is to a shop in oakdale as I was refered by a friend. They told me 150+ fluids. Also I live in the central valley, anybody know any good shops, Modesto/Stockton areas?
Clarify that one Newby. Are you saying $150 is for their labor, and then they charge you for all the fluids? Or is it what Scubalong said? A buck fitty for an oil change and to "look" at the bike? They should at least give you some vaseline.
Not really sure that's why I'm asking. Wanted an oil change and inspection as I recently purchased. The shop over the phone said 150 plus the costs of fluids. My assumption oil, ect. But thought the price was a little steep for such an easy service. Where do you take your bike to be serviced?
Your bike is fairly new, not sure about the history of the service.....But I remember my first major service not sure if it at 6000k but close. They do inspect the valve, flush and replace all the fluid. It ran close to $600.
Not sure what your labor rate is in CA but in the Chicago area it is about $85.00 an hour, so in my area this would be about 1:45 mins. worth of work. If they change oil/filter, lube clutch and brake levers, check brakes, check coolant, adjust chain and check charging system, check tire pressure, inspect tires and actually spend close to this amount of time on your bike it is a fair price. 15 minutes will be just for taking the plastic on and off! Ask if you can watch and learn how to do it yourself.
I'm not the right guy to respond to this thread since A: I don't live in CA and know any shops out there and B: I don't own a 6th gen. I also have no idea how much an inspection is, since NJ no longer requires motorcycle inspections. My opinion: Either change the oil yourself or get the oil changed. Ask the dealer exactly what he's going to do for the $150. I didn't think the valves needed to be checked at 6000 - do they really, Scuba? But obviously, at $150, you're not getting the same service Scuba got.
Pliskin, That because I bought the bike new from the dealer and they suggest for the service..........I do most of the maitenance myself now I guess you have to pay if you don't know. Ce la vie
I'm sure you can find a fellow forum member in the area to assist you with your first oil and filter change and help check the bike over. If I lived near you I would do it for free. Well maybe not free.....I would do the work for only 2 beers. Rollin
