Hi guys. I did a search and came up with some pretty big numbers so I'm thinking I could be the one that's wrong. While I'm pretty obsessive about oil and filter changes I tend to leave plugs until they give trouble. I'm getting the odd miss and my fuel consumption is getting worse, but the plugs have only done 11000km, is that reasonable plug life on the VFR? As I said my other cars and bikes go literally years before I change plugs. Thanks.

"Only" 11,000km is only 1800km short of the recommended replacement interval for a 4th generation VFR according to the Honda factory service manual. It sounds like even by your own criteria - "leave plugs until they give trouble" - it's time to change your plugs. That you're a little short of the recommended interval doesn't matter much if the plugs are no longer working as they should.

I don't feel time or mileage has a whole lot to do with it as much as the running condition. Depending how you use your choke, the way the bike is jetted and ridden. I do basically like you though. If it's running fine, leave it. Pull the plugs and look at them for part of your answer. As they say "your mileage may vary".
