You all are great. So nice to have such knowledgable and willing support. I'll certainly keep everyone posted. I touched base with the seller again yesterday to confirm I'd be heading over this Saturday. All seems well. I don't think he'll budge on his price. I had already told him I would not go above $3,500 a couple weeks ago and he said goodbye. He apparently is a collector of sorts...has a dozen bikes or so and multiple other toys like 4 wheelers. His bike collection ranges from British bikes to Ducatis and multiple Japanese offerings. He tells me he just needs to sell something for a bit more room in the garage - either this bike or a 4 wheeler. Because his long-legged 6'5" frame has never been terribly comfortable on the VFR, he is currently thinking it is the best candidate. He sure doesn't seemed to thrilled about it though given it's apparent condition. Maybe that's an act... Thanks All. Damned helpful.

Got the bike this weekend. It's beautiful. I'll get some pics and figure out how to post. Prior to this bike I'd never actually riden a VFR regardless of generation. I became enthusiastic because of the enthusiasm on this, and the "other" VFR site. Wow. What a joy to ride. What an engine and transmission! I had no idea the treat I was in for. I've only started to go through the manual and learn all about the bike but the build quality is just amazing. I don't see ever parting with this one. Thanks again for all the help. It really made a difference and I'm so happy I didn't get so hung up on price. Such a great looking, wonderful riding machine.

Congratulations! I can't wait to see the pictures. The '93 White is one of my favorites.

Congrats you won't regret it. Which state do you live in? Did you ride the bike home or pick it up with a trailer?

    Buy a new R/R

Congrats on the purchase. If you don't mind the cost, I'd buy a R/R from Ricks Motorsports and put it in a plastic bag under the seat. My stock gen 3 R/R died about 3 days after I bought it, and I put a little over 13,000 miles on the Ricks before I sold it (sold it to pay for a speeding ticket I got on it up in NH )

I live in east TN. Crappy weather the day I picked it up so I trailered it home. I'll certainly pick up the regulator spare. Are Rick's R?R's any better than OEM?

Definitely better than OEM. It has a heatsink which is important, and if you're clever you can get a small computer fan in there to keep air moving in traffic.

Here's an example of putting a heatsink on an OEM: http://www.one-ring.net/vfrfaq/reg-rect.html

No comparison in R/Rs. The OEM are flakey. Read the list of failures on this and other VFR sites. Somebody said to put the "Ricks' under your seat. Ditch that. Buy the " Ricks", install it and put the OEM under your seat.

Sometimes when RRs go South, the battery will discharge. This will leave you stranded and a bear will eat you.

Up in Canada it's the Snow Yeti you have to worry about.

Now I hope Randy's new jacket is Yeti-proof too.

This may be of interest to some of the more adventuresome touristas who ride in Washington and Ogeron. Sasquatch is a vegan.

That's actually a great point. I remember now pushing my bike about a mile because I replaced the R/R but the battery was KIA as well. It also blew the main fuse.

In other news, I'm going to look at a Gen 3 on Sunday. Wish me luck that it's not a lemon.

Thanks again all, I'll get the Rick's R/R and put the OEM under the seat. Thanks for the link too.

I would love to see your bike in person. When it warms up maybe we can meet for a nauseatingly twisty ride through TN since I am not too far away.
