Hey everyone. I remember a thread where someone was asking about a low priced, keyless gas cap. I don't recall anyone posting up one like this. Gas Fuel Cap for Honda CB CBR 929 954 600RR RVF VFR VTR | eBay If the link above goes dead, I did a search for "VFR gas cap" and it pointed me to one on sale by newkitty1116. It's coming straight from Hong Kong, so it will probably take two to three weeks to get to you. The price sure is right, though. Jose
I got a nice one for a similar price a while back. The outfit was selling them cheap so they could establish an online store.
okay...I get the concept, maybe for a race bike... but I don't think I would put one on a daily rider.... with gas prices only going up... why tempt fate? BTW it looks like nice craftsmanship and all that... just don't like unsecure gas access on my vehicles....
Looks like a nice piece. If you get one, let us know how it fits, etc. As long as a non-locking gas cap is ok with you (it is with me - bikes usually not out of my sight anyway) it looks good.
What happened Crusty, you moved to NY and suddenly everyone's a thief? Or was everyone a thief in CA since gas is like $11 a gallon so you're tarnished for life? What is this - Mad Max? lol
yeah .... bikes are easy pickins for a gas thief.. not having a locking gas cap...... and where I live in NY.... they just catch the thief and shoot them and then hang the corpse up on a ence post with a warning sign...
funny enough I did get robbed twice when I lived near where Crusty lived in Cali. It was in Goleta, CA but more commonly know as Isla Vista (a smaller area of town near the college) and gas is only $3.54 a gal right now here in Lompoc, Ca. Personally, if I'm a gas thief (a rapidly growing career I assume) I'm gonna pass on try to get it from the odd motocicleta that might have an easily accessible cap for the car where I can duck between two cars and possibly get 5-10 gals as opposed to 2-3 gallons. Maybe that's why I wouldn't make a good gas thief, though.
If it was Isla Vista , the idiot was probably out of vodka and one of his buddies told him that gas was just as good..... 3.54 a gallon? that's in Lompoc? shit gas is cheaper there than here (by a few cents anyway) ... I was told that it was almost four bucks a gallon in SB
Holy Smokes, where ya been Jose? I posted up about the shortcomings of cheapie Ebay keyless gas caps and info about the 1/4 turn quick release type a month ago right here in the Gear and Accessories forum. :drum: Click me.>>>>>http://vfrworld.com/forums/gear-accessories/37092-ebay-gas-cap.html
I couldn't find the damn thread, Stosh. WTF? Stoopid search criteria! At any rate, these might still be the cheapy, fade in the sun anno, but they ARE 1/4 turn. An industrious monkey might want to buy it for the 1/4 turn feature and when the anno. fades, give it a bead blast and painting or powdercoat. At less than $20, it is something you can afford to muck about with. Although I still don't see me using a non-locking gas cap. Jose
Actually they broke my truck window at the apartment complex I lived in and stole my CD case. Then another assclown broke into my apartment and stole my cordless tools. I know who the second was, though. I just had no way to prove it. He posed as a friend and stopped by to hang out and drink a beer then proceeded to unlock the patio door sometime when I wasn't looking then came back after I went to work. Oh, and the gas prices are actually a bit lower than that cause it's a Von's gas station so I get another .03 off minimum and the more you shop at Von's the higher the discount. I got .99 per gal off not too long ago. (near xmas after all the food we bought)
I never really found the whole process of having to put my key in my gas cap all that tedious. You know, pull into the gas station, sitting on my bike, maybe even got the sidestand down, all set to fill my tank.. but wait!! What kind of bullshit is this? You really expect me to have to remove this key from my ignition, move my arm an additional 12 inches, and go through this arduous task of unlocking my gas cap. Just so I can continue along my way for the next 200 miles. That's fucked up. Stupid Honda Engineers. I bet whoever designed this gas cap was the same guy that designed the R/R. I need a gas cap that just pops open. Come to think of it, do they have valve stem caps that I don't have to screw on/off each and every time I want to check my air pressure?
My thing is ... where do you put the loose cap? With the stock cap, it flips up out of the way and it stays attached. With the 1/4 turn jobbies, you end up with a loose cap that can end up on the ground. Unless it's a true racing cap where you just cram in the nozzle and it closes back up when you pull the nozzle out, I don't think it's worth changing. Jose
And that is why I ultimately decided to stick with the stocker. I knew it would irritate me every time I filled up.
Plus with the stock one you don't have to worry about accidentally leaving the key in "on" or "park". Probably wouldn't be the end of the world but electricity and gas is probably not a good combo.
