With tires come lots of opinions. You didn't mention mileage so I'm not sure if your are more interested in performance or longevity. You trade one for the other but tire mfgs are getting better at giving you both. I personally like the Bridgestone BT-016 and the Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs. Both are readily available at your local shop and most shops for that matter. If your shop carries a more varried selection and or you order online (if your shop will install and or you install) you can look at other offerings. Metzler M3s offer very good performance but you get very little mileage. Dunlop Q2s are new to the market bring mileage and a high degree of performance and are also a good choice. Pirrelli just put out the Rosso corsa which is a sweet tire just hot performance but $100 more expensive than other choices. That is pretty much my short list.

These are all sport tires and have an aggressive profile and compound. They are made for extreme lean angles and larger contact patch in a lean. Make sure your tires are warm when you get aggressive and lower your tire pressures. Do some research on this. Be careful doing this stuff on the street. Get more opinions. You will get lots of opinions on tires but for carving... Real carving, don't look at the sport touring tires like the Pilot Road. Yes you can go edge to edge on these tires but the profile is different. Not like going edge to edge on a 16 or a 2 CT.

The 2CT is a very triangular profile tire. It offers QUICK turn in (more like falling over) if you are not used to it, take a few miles to get used to it. Most sport tires are more triangular in profile but some are more neutral than others.

I currently run BT-016s at 2lbs lower than spec. If you want to get aggressive you can drop a few more lbs like 4 lower than spec but change for commuting etc.

I am needing new tires for spring and am seriously considering the Dunlop Q2s or the Pirelli Rosso Corsas.

    Good luck

Proper riding tecgnique is more important than tires , for the most part, than the tires you run.

    Agreed.... BZ.

I was speaking to the question about tires and assuming technique.

Baring a class, hit the bookstore or amazon and pickup a book. Total Control by Lee Parks. I found it to be a good book and it is nice to have it as a reference as well having it at hand to read and re-read.

The above mentioned, are all fine choices.
Pirelli Diablo's have the best grip that I've ridden but I can't get 3000 miles out of them.
Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs, have good grip for a tire that will do 7500 miles.
Dunlop Q2s or the Pirelli Rosso Corsas grip a little better than the Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs, but they only go about 4500 miles...
