    Why did you pull the air box plate?

    You have the run switch on the bar set to run correct?

    Ignition box or pulse generators. One pulse generator for each coil so it's unlikely that both have failed of natural causes.

    The fuel pump only fires when the coils fire. If no power to coils then no power to pump. Check/clean connections at the ignition boxes in tail section. If that doesn't work come back for more info. Do you have a factory manual?

    For starters, how healthy is your battery? Does it turn the motor over fast enough? What kind of voltage drop are you getting at the battery when you hit the starter button and the motor starts to turn over?

    Battery is plenty fine, currently using the one out of my 84 which was a running bike and the battery is only about 18 months old. I know the battery sits at 12.8v and doesn't drop much below that after cranking. Motor is spinning plenty fast.

    @dutch can you tell me where the main ground is?

    Engine stop switch is dirty or has a bad connection is my guess. I will put some beer on it.

    Main ground is the bolt on the cross member on the frame right above the fuel pump. The same bolt holds the crankcase vent bottle to the frame. Pull that connection and clean it up. Also, as TOE suggests, it's not a bad idea to get into the kill switch to check for dirty contacts. The best part is you can switch parts between your two bikes to isolate the culprit if you have a failed part!

    My beers are on its a ground issue..I had the same problem..the bike would crank all day with no fire and no fuel pump..on the crossmember in the center of the frame under the seat you have the ground wires (group of green wires) coming off the wiring harness bolted to the frame. I can see it in one of your pictures and it looks like its connected..Check and see if you may have removed it for tear down, if not clean it. Eliminate that then move on..

    I think I'm having the same problem with my VFR. Can you by chance show me in one of your pictures, or tell me where the kill switch is that you're talking about? Is that just the off/run switch, or something else?
