I've been riding bikes around Sydney Australia for too many years to remember, starting off back in the good ole days of early Japanese 4 cylinder machines. All hail the mighty Honda 740/4s and the Kwaka 900's. I've ridden a lot of the bikes built including the mighty H2 750 Kwaka 2 strokers, Suzuki Katanas and the like and am still around to tell the tale. Anyway I had the traditional 20 year marriage with children layoff and bought a Suzuki 1200 Bandit a number of years ago. Great bike, bullet proof, but time to update so recently acquired a very nice 2010 VFR800 in immaculate condition. I've posted a few shots of her on the forum What I'd like to ask is can someone let me know where I can pick up a soft copy of a decent workshop manual without having to donate some kind of organ? Also if someone could recommend headlight protectors; all the adverts claim theirs are the best, but I really don't know. I'm also considering a set of oggy knobs or the like. Any advice or assistance you can offer a new VFR owner/rider would be very much appreciated. Cheers
Aloha Bandit Just saw your other post before this one. You got a lot of riding experience. Nice VFR. Obviously different riding posture from the Bandit. Always wanted to get a Bandit. On my VTR I added Helibars and a Sargent seat. It really helped the ride for me. Sorry I can't help you on the manual though. Tried E-bay?
Onomea, Thanks for your reply. The Bandit has a great easy riding position, its full of torque and provided you're doing over 30kms per hour you don't even need to downshift; just stick in top. It's not the fastest or best handling handling bike and the true sports bikes will leave you behind in some areas but I give a lot of people a scare when we do the twisties. It's the easiest bike in the world to ride, probably even simpler than my wife's Vespa. Still onward and upward and I know I'll get used to the VFR, the only challenge was I had a serious car accident quite some years ago and the back plays up from time to time. Anyway look foward to riding something different for the enxt few years. Cheers
Hi Bandit, Where about's in Sydney? I was a Westie & had my 1st really bad stack in Toongabbie (1969), but left Syd 25 years ago. As for the manual, you can get a Haynes/Clymers on Ebay, I got mine from a guy in the UK, but there are a few on there from US & Oz. The UK dealer was the cheapest & took about 7 days from ordering & there are a few places you can download the factory one. Oggy knobs can be got from the same place, lots of dealers out there. The Motorcycle Supermarket at Parramatta has them if you don't like waiting around for the postie. They would probably have your headlight protector as well. Don't go there with the rent money as you will probably walk out with more stuff than you intended to get.
Hi Pacemaker. Thanks for your note. I live in part of Campbelltown, and notwithstanding its poor reputation, find it a great place to live. 5 mins from country roads through Camden way, down Fitzroy Falls to Kangaroo Valley up Macquarie Pass and so on. I ended up getting a manual from the following link DOWNLOAD NOW Honda VFR800 VFR 800 2002 Service Repair Workshop Manual - Download Technical. It's one you download and was 636 pages. Looks like a genuine Honda one at that. Cost was US $6.75. I'll have a look at MCAS at Auburn for some of the other stuff soon; it's big, sort of US size I reckon. Cheers Colin
That color is AWESOME! Welcome to the fun. Keep on postin pics of the bike & the places you ride
Hi 82ndGreasemonkey, Thanks for your note. I look forward to adding some miles on it and will post any worthwhile shots Colin
Hi Uber Guru, Yep, its look not bad. The bike is a standard "special" colour called silver sword with the gold wheels, the black frame is how it came. They're a nice looking bike straight of the shop floor. Looks like you enjoy projects; you have a lot more patience than me. I want to ride, moreso then tinker. Cheers Colin
Ho Jose, Thanks for your note. The shape is one of the attractions of the VFR I guess; look like they're going fast when their parked. Colin
