Just thought Id post some pictures of my mini buggy since I recently got it driving. Its powered by a 1985 VF1000R. Runs great and is fast as hell. Has fox 2.0 shocks, live axle, 16" of travel and is primarily a dune toy.

    enjoy.

Neglecting the questionable cross, that looks like tons o' fun.

Any reason you chose that engine over others ?

The only reason I used this engine was that I bought it with a bunch of other parts in order to build the sandrail. Got a smokin' deal for everything ($600) and had absolutely everything to make the motor run so I used it. I wanted to use a newer fuel injected GSXR1000, R1, or Busa motor but that's the future planned motor swap if I ever get around to it. This one runs great for the time being while I tune the suspension and get everything dialed in.

I haven't weighed it yet but it should be around 1100-1300 lbs. It's sounds awesome and definitely way different than any I've heard. I have yet to even pin the throttle, at about 3/4 throttle it's a pretty wild ride. I have a few questions though.

Is the shift pattern on these motors 1 up and 4 down?
Every bike I've ever ridden from the neutral position is 1 down and 4 up (or however many gears you have). I have the shifter setup in my buggy correct but the shift pattern is reversed from what I'm used to. Just curious.

The other question is up at the carbs/fuel lines, my fuel line from fuel pump "T's" into two rubber lines that connect to the hard plastic T's in-between the carbs. Is the right? And I have a hard fuel line that is in-between the rear carbs that has two fuel line connections but they're plugged off. I've searched around and think mine is wrong although it runs great. I thought I read that where my fuel lines are plumbed are the "fuel vents"? Making me think the fuel line from the pump needs to tie into the rear carbs hard line.

Any info would help. Sorry for the bad description.

is this what yours look like? the tubes in the middle are the fuel lines and the ones on the outside are vent lines... you can see how the front bank and rear bank are tied together.....

I thought it was 1 down and 5 up, but I never had one of the old ones. I don't know about the vf1000, but on the newer bikes the shift lever comes back towards your toe so if you are looking at it the wrong way it would seem reversed. Or I supposed it's possible someone changed it out for racing or some such.

Well after viewing some YouTube videos I realized that I had the orientation of the shifter wrong which made me think the shift pattern was different. So it is 1 down and 4 up. No worries.

Still curious about the fuel lines though...

That pic is throwing these old tired eyes but the hose marked in red looks like the carb air vent tube( #4 in the first pic and #2 in the middle of the second pic.) and it should not be plugged.
