I've been a "learner" here for a few weeks, and I finally picked up my 2000 5th gen VFR800 today. Looking forward to the warmer weather to put in some real seat time on it!
I started riding in 1979. My first bike was a Honda CB400F I picked up from a friend. I traded up to a Yamaha Seca 750 (black, of course) in 1981 and rode that for a few years until the demands of job, family, and garage space led me to sell it. I was bikeless until about 1998, when I picked up a 1981 Gold Wing (standard - no fairings or bags) that only had 12,000 miles on it. I sold that three years ago and picked up a Honda VTX 1300 R, which I will keep because it just does everything well, except rip-your-arms-off accelerate. I wanted something a little sportier and inexpensive, and found a nice VFR on Craigslist. So now we are a three-bike household (forgot to mention my wife has a Rebel 250 she is learning on) and I'll keep the VTX for riding 2-up and the VFR for the sheer fun of it. She saw it tonight in the garage, and said it wasn't as ugly as most of the sport bikes - I guess that's a good sign

Thanks, Comicus. The engine sound is wonderful! My bike was originally yellow, but has been repainted a couple times over the years and is now flat black (primer I think) with some evidence of red under the rear body panel. I kinda like the flat black with a couple of 'dings' in it - sort of a "Mad Max" look lol

Welcome! I see a few parallels between us; three Hondas in my garage, my VFR, VTX and my wife's Aero and I'm orginally from Jersey.

    How YOU doin?

I'm on the other side of Schooley's Mountain in Mt. Olive (about 2 miles or so from Johnson Dodge at the top of the hill on 46). My wife hates all things with 2 wheels, so we won't be doing any double dating. But once this weather warms up some, it'd be great to meet a new VFR rider. There's also a small group of us that gets together every now and then over the summer months to tear it up out in the Poconos. Keep your eyes open and you'll see various threads pop up about it.

Geez Pliskin we are practically neighbors. I'll keep an eye out for when you guys go for rides. I go right by you all the time, I think I can drive RT 46 through Budd Lake with my eyes closed. Big Green V, are you my long-lost brother?? Nice to see someone else appreciates the VTX for what it is, and has a VFR for those 'other' rides that cry for just a bit more. MiddleT, It seemed like the 98-01 VFRs are solid bikes from everything I could find online, so it seemed like a good fit.

I love's my my 2000. Expensive two-stage paint when you have to repair panels ($190 a quart X2), but the gear noise is MAGICAL!!!!!

    Welcome.

No doubt we're close. We can meet up at the Budd Lake Diner for some coffee. Or Mama's in Hackettstown for a slice.

Or if you're filthy rich, you can pay to take me to the Hibachi place by the movie theater. (I used to take my kids there all the time, now its like $200 for dinner for 4, and that's without drinking. That's nuts).

Yes, the engine does make some pretty noise, What kind of paint do you have on yours? Mine is flat black primer right now - it will take some work to get it "paint ready" - not sure if it'll be worth it
