I'm trying to put the Heli bats on b ut can't get the damper units out of my stockers.

I have one locked in a vice and have the bar end weight screwed back on so I have something to grab. There are two clips to hold the damper in. I can get both clips pushed in, but as soon as I grab the bar end weight to pull the damper out the clips snap right back in. I've shot a little WD-40 in there to loosen up the rubber rings on the damper.

Is there a techinque for this? I'm not getting anywhere. I have the Honda shop manual and Heli's instructions, but they just say push in clips and pull...

Thanks in advance for any advice.

canib that was the biggest trouble I had too. What I found worked best was to try an get one clip out of the hole and pull on the weight until it stayed out then try and release the second clip. You need to keep a little tension on the weight once you have the first one out or it will drop back into the hole. Its kind a keep wiggling at it till it works thing. I found that when I had the first one out the second went much more easily. I also lubricated using alcohol. It dries out quickly so the rubber grips later when you reinstall.

    Good luck.

If you can find someone who has installed a Throttlemeister (and who has saved the parts), a "puller" collar and bolt were included. Using this device turns the job into a 30 second task. If you can't find one, contact me and I will send you mine if you will promise to return it.

Sorry I can't be much help, but I would be interested in buying your stock left bar.

why not just buy new ones? In the long run you'll save money depends on how much you value your time though I guess.

Thanks for the help guys. The second one was much easier. The first one was damn hard though.

My advice to anyone doing this job:
    1) Don't over torque the pinch bolts becuase they brake and you have to go buy a retreival kit then learn how to use it on very expensive peices of metal.
    2) On the left side the two screws holding the high-beam/turn signal housing are different sizes. If you put the long on in the short hole it pokes through the housing and you have this junky hole on your new shiny bike :(
    3) The turn signal housing and starter switch housing have a guide hole on each side. The housings won't screw back into place properly unless you have the protrusion thingy in the guide hole.

Helibar should really consider shipping thier product with that puller collar and bolt. Especially considering thier price.

Notslow - I'll be putting the pair on ebay with no reserve in the next couple of days.
