I was out riding the VF1000R on Saturday enjoying the weather riding down new roads trying to get lost. I caught a white, 8 spoke wheel out of the corner of my eye and slowed down to check it out. It was a 93 VFR in someones front yard and it looked as though it had been left to grow into the earth. I left a note on the door of the house (nobody was home) asking if the owner would considering selling, etc. The owner called and said yep, get it out of my yard and for $250 I had it delivered to my door!

It's been down on the left side so it needs some left side fairings and the owner says it's been sitting for 3 years and it needs a CDI box. Everything else looks alright considering. It is a project and it will cost oodles to get in fine running condition but that is the fun of a project right? I flushed the brakes today and did some regular inspecting.

Anyway, I have something that'll keep me busy for awhile. If anyone has a lock on some left side body work for a 3rd gen let me know.

Definitely a great find. You'll be amazed at how much better that'll look just by putting some elbow grease into it cleaning that grime off of it. It sounds like a great project ... now that my R is done, I'm looking for another one myself. Congratulations.

thanks! I definitely plan on restoring it. I considered for a second to part it out since, as someone mentioned, the rear wheel is worth more than I paid for the whole thing. I stripped everything last night and flushed out the brakes and clutch. The airbox was clean and the plugs look good so that's a start I guess. Suspension will be sent off to Jamie D. over the next week or two. Now just have to get the carbs of and replace fuel lines to see it it'll make some noise. I'll be starting my own restore thread and posting pics along the way. It'll be a "longer" process for sure.

Did the PO even know what was sitting on his lawn? Was it one of those, "Someone gave it to me because they owed me money" scenarios?

He had no idea. It was a "my son bought this bike then left" type deals. Of course the old man was telling me how people offered $5000 but he didn't take it a year ago because he got a strange feeling about the guy. Some people will tell all kinds of stories if you listen to them long enough. I wasn't concerned with what he thought about the bike or what he "figured" was wrong with it. I was more less "here's your money, lets get it to my garage, thanks".

    Nice find. How many miles?

My wife was just looking over my shoulder at the pics, and said "its pretty. I like the tires" (meaning the rims - but that's woman-speak). She knows jack shit about anything with wheels, but was impressed.

Thanks. I'll have my hands full. Got a battery in it and the lights all came on but didn't turn over. The guy I brought it from said the CDI is bad. I'll do some checking before I start throwing money at a new CDI. Downloaded the manual last night and printed it up today. Unfortunately I won't have any time to dive into it until thursday night and this weekend. It'll also need some left side body work.

Side note: How hard is fixing cracks in plastic?

Sweet deal, Congrats on a great find! I've always wanted a white 93. You don't see many of those anymore.
