Yes I did it . Just bought a 1010 vfr 1200f manual . I havent ridden it yet , probably I wont be able to ride it until Mid April due to the weather in Michigan. Any way I want to put a radar detector on thr bike. Any recomaendations for type and sugested mounting options.
    Thanks Mike

Selection is a matter of choice and budget. Mounting depending on your needs can be pricy or as inexpensive as a strip of marine grade Velcro on the unit and on a tankbag. Generally, the headphones supplied suck. There is sufficient juice in the jack to drive an LED that you can stick on the inside of your windscreen with a suction cup. You can buy similar devices for big bucks but the parts are cheap.

Dude, that sucks! I just got one a couple weeks ago and our weather hasn't been very cooperative. But, have managed to squeeze in almost 500 miles. It'll be 60 degrees in OK this weekend so I hope to double the mileage this weekend. I'd go crazy if I had to wait until mid April to ride the new bike.

As far as the detector goes, there is only one, the Valentine1. Valentine One radar and laser detectors

I have used the Passport for years and had good luck with the suction cup holder that came with it. Along with velcro on my dash where the front edge of the unit lays.

I had the Valenitine Detcetor on two of my bikes, the main thing is to have an ear phone that that goes to ur helmet. Its a good unit, the best, really.

Not like the time I passed an Idaho state trooper who was going the other way when I was doing 135mph!!!!

I'm tucked down see the detector lights in full RED and look up to see the trooper! Oh shit! Had only another mile or so before the South Dakota line and the trooper couldn't cross the median because of it's ditch like angle at that point. I just kept going.

If I had ear piece I could have notice him sooner and slowed to at least 90mph in a 55!

Everyone has the best one. What is needed is a prize for the biggest one.

    new vfr

It sounds like you are enjoying your new bike. What type of bike did you have before, how do you like the new vfr 1200 ? Being that I cant ride mine I will live vicariously through you. How does it handle, does it turn well,Is the 1st and 2nd gear an issue or is as sweet as it looks,Did you get the manual or dct. Enjoy, I wish I could with mine. I got such a good deal I couldnt pass it up and I was afraid that if I didnt pick it up I might miss out on it. Any way tell me what you think. Mike

    thanks for the info.
Lokked at the valentine. Then the bell rx65 and escort 8500 x 50 which are basically the same unit with the same parent company, then at the escort 9500 with the gps feature whic is pretty cool it memorizes false alarms and cancels them with repeated exposures and also warns of red light and speed cameras .All pretty neat stuff. Heck maybe Ill wait untill mid April when I can ride it. Who knows maybe I wont even need one . As slow as this bike is Ill probanly never exceed the speed limet any way:biggrin:

It just turned 600 miles today. So far, it has far exceeded my expectations. My sport touring bike preferences have always been on the "sport" side of the equation... 81 GPZ550, 84 500 Intercepter, 84 GS1150S, 90 CBR1000F, 94 VFR, 97 XX, 98 VTR, 99 XX, 02 SV650, 04 KTM 950, 05 GSXR1000, 08 CBR1000RR. I was considering one of the bigger STs e.g. FJR, C14. But, they just didn't trip my trigger like the sportier bikes. The VFR1200 is extremely smooth and comfortable. The wife and I went for a 160 mile ride today and we were both very pleased with the comfort and performance. We've put about 800 miles on a friend's RT1200 and a few hundred miles on a '10 CVO UltraGlide. For us, the additional comfort of those bikes wasn't enough to make up for their lack of performance.

RE:Handling, it handles much more like a sportbike than an RT or FJR. It feels at least 100 lbs lighter than it is. If it wasn't for the spec sheet, I'd never guess it weighs 150lbs more than the CBR. It is very confidence inspiring. Its one of those bikes that you can immediately go fast on because it does everything you expect exactly when you expect it...very predictable.

RE: 1st and 2nd gear issue. I'd prefer that it had full power at the lower RPM. But, it isn't a huge deal to me. By far, the worst part about it is just knowing that it doesn't have to be that way. The motor spins smooth, strong and free over a wide RPM range. So its easy to avoid low rpm in 1st and 2nd by either revving the bike higher or lugging it more in 3rd. Also, even with the neutering of low rpm in 1st and 2nd, it still has a lot more power at those rpms than many of the bikes I've owned.

I bought the VFR for 2-up riding and wasn't planning to sell the 08 CBR1000RR or the MV Agusta Brutale. But, after 600 miles, the CBR may be for sale this spring. The VFR goes as fast as I need to be going on the street and I only do a couple track days a year any more.

Mine is the manual and the transmission shifts like butter. But, I'd like to ride a DCT to see what its like. Even if I liked it, I'd prefer to wait a couple years to let others work out the potential bugs.

It sounds really nice,I cant wait until April and the snow to disapear. I went to a dealer here in Michigan and sat on the vfr a few times and decided to buy one, but he would not go below 13k and then taxes on top of it so I found a dealer in Ohio rented a covered trailer fo $19 drove down picked it up drove home dropped it off and returned the trailer. What a long day that was. But it was worth the savings. I didnt drive it at the dealers or when I got home. But it sounds like I am going to enjoy it. It sounds like you have had some pretty nice bikes. I was this close to pulling the trigger on a 2008 cbr1000 2 years ago, What a sweet bike.Instead I bought a cb919 which is a very fun light and nimble bike. But not very good for longer rides on the freeway, too light and the wind really beats you up,especially with two up riding.I want to try a track day with the 919,I wont do it with the vfr.Your information about you and the Mrs taking a longer ride in comfort is good to know,I told my wife that I want to take a longer trip to S Dakota and see the black hills and MT Rushmore (2500 miles tound trip)and she will consider it.But first things first. I have to ride it
