First off, I have been searching for 2 hrs for anyone with the same problems, but everyone is having different "symptoms" Close but not the same.

I have owned this bike for 5yrs and put 26,000 miles on it.

    Now for the problems....

FI light comes on after 5 mins of riding (always has)
Will not throttle... If I throttle really fast the engine will die, and anything over 3/4 throttle it actually feels like it is losing power!! (120mph top speed when this happens and takes forever to vet there) sometimes it runs with no problems. (1 out of 25 times)

Also, when at idle the headlight is brighter than when throttling .

The bike is a 98 vfr800 with power commander, and Yoshimura exhaust.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Check and clean connector at TP sensor. Possible injector circuit fault. I'd also replace the fuel filter as a clogged one will increase current (voltage) causing a FI light and damaging the voltage reg.

Unless nmlongirider is right on, you need to pull the code that's throwing the FI light. Do you know how to, or do you have a manual.

I do not have the manual, and do not know how to pull the codes. This is very aggravating... I put new plugs, and battery thinking that would fix it but NO! If I can find the TP sensor I will check and clean connection.
    Thanks

Sorry man. I didn't see your post until just now. I'm not at home to take any pictures, but try this to pull the code.

Take your seat off. On the left side, tied into the wiring harness, there should be a loose hanging, female plug (no jokes about a loose hanging female). Its formally called the Service Check Connector.

First question though - once your FI light comes on, what happens when you keep the bike running and put your side stand down? Technically, it should blink giving you a code. But if it doesn't you can go about it as follows.

(Keep in mind that one long blink of about 1.3 seconds is equivalent to 10 short blinks. So if you get one long blink followed by 7 short, your total is 17 blinks).

    1, Have your ignition off.
    2. Short the Service Check Connector using a jumper wire (paperclip works just fine too).
    3. Turn your ignition on - you don't need to start the bike, but make sure your engine kill switch is in the "run" position.
    4. You should get "X" amount of blinks at this point.
    5. If the FI light stays illuminated, then the ECM has no data memory of what went/is wrong.

Once you do this - and hopefully find out how many blinks - then post it back up here and we'll figure out what the problem is.

By the way, the TP sensor would send off a code of 8 blinks. I know its located on the right side of the bike, right under the "corner" of the gas tank, but to be honest, I don't know if you have to take the tank off to get to it. I don't THINK you do, but not sure.

One other thing: Did you try running the bike without the power commander? I may be one of the few, but I actually had a PC call it quits on me and that led to some problems.

Ok, I tried the paperclip, and nothing happened(no light at all)
After running for about 3-5mins the FI light came on so I tried the kickstand thing and got 8 blinks
Not sure if it repeats itself but following the 8 flashes it is on steady for a second and 8 more an so on.
I am hunting the TPS now.

Btw while I was riding it just now it was as if it just lost a CYL (or 2)

Well the 8 blinks is definitely the TP. But if its 18 blinks (one long followed by 8 short) that's apparently for a cam pulse generator, but then you're bike probably wouldn't even start.

The "symptoms" for the TP are "Poor engine response when operating the throttle quickly". Sounds like that might be the culprit. Perhaps nmlongrider is prophetic. See if you can find it, check it out, clean it up, check voltage.

If you want to PM me your e-mail, I'll scan in the pages checking for codes and what to do for checking the TP sensor.

Got your PM and sent you about 8 pages from the manual. Hopefully it goes through.

It would be logical to remove the power commander before attempting to troubleshoot this.
