Hi I am looking to buy a VFR and am not sure if I want to get a 750 or an 800 and was looking for some advice in this regards. As far as what are the pros and cons of a 750 vs 800 besides age and what to look for etc, I am a novice about the bike, but like what I have read so far. I don't like the styling on the newer VFR personally. Thank in advance to any and all Marc
agree with chesthing and philm... plus the 5g are a bit cheaper so you have money left for goodies like protective gear, bags, etc...
1998-2001 models 5th gen can be bought for a good price if you look around. Fuel injection 782cc / 98-105hp/ Gear driven cams/valve clearence check at 16,000 miles and when you ride a VFR you dont have to have a chiropractor follow you around to straighten your back..lol The VFR dont just have class it is class..The wife and I put over 10,000 miles on the 99 VFR last year and we plan to beat that this year,,.
I would say the 5th generation. I would look for a 2000 or 2001 low mileage VFR. It just does not get better. Any generation VFR is great in my book, but the 5 generation with fuel injection and other ameneties make it a great bike.
4th gen is actually lighter and more sporty ergos, but the 5th has FI and retained the gear cams which are pros that have to be considered. If you're edging on 6' or over, you'll be all-day comfortable on either. Either way, a well kept example will make a hell of a good ride for you. There are quicker bikes, but nothing IMHO produces the blend of sport and tour with a HUGE power band like the VFR. You're movin' into blissfull territory. Enjoy!
All the gear driven cam VFR start in 1986 and go all the way until 2001. VFR does stand for Very Fine Ride...Comfortable/ power when needed/ cruise it or race it as it can take the punishment.. Its hard to beat perfection over so many years.
