Very nice Sparks. It's really a shame that they Honda never brought the 400 V's to North America.

Hi XR650rr This was an inport as most of the 400's in the UK. We never got the RWB interceptor colours only plain ones but they were 750's

Nicely done! If I could ask, do you have a few additional photos/build list for this project bike? I am sure you put a smile on the new owner's face. Kudos!

So, is the guy in the white shirt Valasco ? Was standing right at that turn at Laguna and witnessed Bubba getting hammered, hell of a way to end a race :(

That picture was taken at either the '86 or '87 Daytona 200. In '86, Freddie was coming back to superbike racing. It was going to be an epic battle between Eddie Lawson on the FZ and Freddie on the new VFR. Freddie rode well in practice and qualifying but pulled out the day of, or the day before the 200 with tendinitis that kept him out for the year in superbike racing.

In '87, he was on pole for the 200 aboard a VFR but crashed in a practice session, hitting a fallen rider. Spencer broke his collar bone. He left for surgery and rehab before his try at the first GP of the season March 29 in Japan, leaving the VFR behind and wouldn't race superbike again on it. His next try was an RC30.

The picture above must be a practice session or qualifying but unfortunately he never got to "race" it. Bummer cause in '87 he was 2 seconds faster than Lawsons
    record time from '86.

All was good cause Rainey took the checkered on a VFR.

    Thanks for the post hopit.

If I could ask, did the superbike versions of the VFRs have modified cranks (i.e. re-phased from 180d to 360d)?

If I had to guess, I would say no. I think the AMA wanted stock cranks w/o modification?

Cams in AMA have to be pretty much stock. They can be re-profiled as long as it retains its stock lift.

The factory bikes had 360 degree cranks, the race kit used the stock crank.

Looks like an RC30 engine and front end. The RC45 was FI and ulta rare, I doubt he used one of those.

Here are just a few of the Spencer bikes on display at the Honda Museum at Motegi, Japan. I took a lot more but this should do it for most....

This is an example of the NR500 ridden by Takazumi Katayama in 1979......early oval piston racer:

Motegi is the alter of Honda, many number one plates and race winners to look at. There will be a certain number 27 added to the collection there soon.....
