Power Commander Help - 2000 VFR

    Hey everyone, I have a 2000 VFR and just bought a Power Commander V without Autotune. I am looking for some help in selecting a map that might be close. The bike has a high Staintune slip on with stock header, PAIR valves and flapper mod and a Pipercross (similar to K&N) air filter installed. Anyone have something that works well with a similar setup?

    Dynotune should have a few maps already pre-configured with similar setups for your make/model, although they might be for the PCIII, as the PCV is meant for 2009+. You can import a PCII map into the Power Commander software and save them as a PCV version. This should get you in the ballpark, otherwise what Tinker said, get a Dyno tune done on it. The Power Commander website list places where you can have it done. I just installed my PCV on Sunday and I had to call Dynotune as their website was missing the links to the 2009 maps. They have one close enough to my setup that should get me going for now. There's also a place in AZ that sells maps, I cannot vouch for them but they seem to have them for ~$50.00 ea. Someone else posted this before, but I cannot remember who.

    Just wondering, is the Power Commander worth the expense? If so, which should I purchase for my 2000 vfr?

    I'll never understand people worried about more performance buy a powercommander and then cheap out on doing a proper dyno tuning.

    Personally I think any mod cost is subjective, it all boils down to what your goal is and what you're willing to pay for it. I bought my PCV to help smooth out the throttle response, which it did, but I am using an off the shelf map. Ultimately I'm going to get a proper Dyno tune, which will add to the overall cost but I will feel more confident about having it setup properly.

    As far as which one to get, some will say the PCV, others will say the PCIII due to the model year you have. My understanding is that the 2002-2009 can use the PCV but that is something you might check with Dyno Tune on. Since my ride is a 2009, it was a no brainer for me.

    If you are going to pay for a custom dyno map, then why not get the AutoTune ? simple addon, turn on & go. As someone else found out to their cost, just make sure you turn on all the features first, otherwise temperature changes make the ECU use different maps which messes up the PCV if the full feature set is NOT on with AutoTune.
