I do a 60 mile roundtrip commute daily. In rainy and really cold weather I drive my cage to work  I'd rather not risk it. Last 4 years I'm averaging about 12,000 miles yearly. Not sure if that is alot really, I know guys who have owned bikes for at least 4 years and still don't even have over 5k. What kills me the most, is some guys I know in MC's both street and Harley don't even put 3k miles on their bike a year. So I'm just wondering how many miles do yall put on your bike out there and what kind of riding? I live in the SF/Oakland Bayarea so my riding is mainly freeway jamming, but we have some great coastal, mountian, and valley spots outside of the city. I think this year I should put up higher numbers seeing as I just bought all new cold weather gear. Really impressed with some of the textile gear out there. So this year I'm not going to let the cold keep my down.

Average over 5 years is just over 5k per year.

I know geographical regions would also play a big factor in how often one would ride.

Having more than one running bike changes the the equation. An example: I have a 750 and a 1200. I also have an older BMW and a an even older Yamaha. When I bought the Yamaha I was riding a Triumph. Had both for awhile and then sold the Triumph and bought the Yamaha in mid year. A year of so later, I bought the BMW. Bought the 750 VFR in mid year too. Fewer miles on all of the three since buying the 1200.

Like the TC all of them are just for fun.

So, answering a question like how many miles a year is about like asking how many pancakes does it take to shingle a doghouse. This might include crepes too if one is so disposed.

I used to put 20-25,000 miles of riding a year on my bike(s). Now I am more like 1-3,000 miles. Nearly anywhere in the country if you life allows, you can easily do several thousand miles a year. When I got my first bike, a 450 Nighthawk, I think I put 500 on in the first week and like 1200 in the first month. And that was late fall in New England, so the weather wasn't nice.

I commute 40-80 miles a day depending on what's on the calendar at work. I got the VFR in July, and have put over 4k on it. Before that I had a ZX-11 that I pot 3k on in 2 1/2 months, and overlaping both of those were the 86 VFR I just sold, a Suzuki, and wifey's ZX9R that probably collected another 1k between the 3- and I've only been riding again since April...So probably 12-14k a year...

18.5K miles on average. Mostly commuting...in the fucking rain and cold. A few trips to California, couple throught the Kootenays, Vancouver Island and Mt Rainier. I rode through SF a couple years ago. I think I passed you. Did youi see me wave? I was going the other way.

Zero pancakes cause icecream doesn't have bones and dead roosters don't crow.

    Randy,

Thankyou so much for another of the many rain riding stories that you share with us each time.

Just kidding about the pancakes and doghouses. The real math lies in a permutation equation. Everyone knows that pancakes are not waterproof.

I'm in the 10,000 plus every year so far had the 1200 for nine months but in the last three years I've put down over 32,000 miles on 2009 Triumph T100-sold missed very much, HD 95FLSTN-sold, and the 1200.

The VFR I just bought was from a guy in Reno, NV. The whole Reno/Tahoe area is like biker heaven to me. So many nice roads out there to ride on. Anyway, the guy I bought my bike from had it for about 18 months. He only put about 1,300 miles on the bike!. I would be mad at myself for seeing it and not riding it everytime I went in the garage. Glad I was able to rescue the bike and can enjoy it for what it's made for.

If they were, I would be interested in buying them and wearing them on my commute to work. They can't be any worse than what I wear now.

You know, it is a Criminal Offense here in Canada to neglect animals that way. I mean fuck, a house cat. Yet nothing is done to those who neglect these beautiful Bengal tigers.

and they would be edible after a long ride? I would certainly make sure my female passengers had this type of gear if it exsisted. It would make breakfast eating a lot more kinky!

When I bought my 2000 in January of 2008, it had 5400 miles on it. Its only got 15,500 on it now, but this year was very limited in my riding for various reasons, and I only did about 1500 miles.

My riding season is usually about April through October, with occasional jaunts in the other months.

Off topic... Did anyone see the American Chopper finale. OCC didn't even build a bike, more like a asphalt sled with tank treads and it was electric?!, Jesse James didn't even try, and Paul Jr's bike was nice, but I would say more of a piece of art rather than a chopper. I think the whole motorcycle shows are losing steam, even sons of anarchy was GARBAGE at the end.

    does trailering to Sturgis count?

Randy's followed by a dark cloud

pancake underwear would take care of the whole stock vs. corbin, vs. sergeant seat debate

oh boy, now I'll probably be in the dog house

regarding miles; I've been running close to 10k/yr. Probably be less from here with a new child unless I can sneak in at least one long cross country ride every year.
