Nothing wrong with me, ATGATT. Wife was crying at first as it happened right outside the house. Was leaving for work this morning at 730ish. Roads were a little damp but nothing major. Soon as I turn left from our neighborhood, I straightened up, cracked the throttle a little and then cue the song "Wipeout!"

I wound up sort of being flipped over the side of it as it slid down on the left side. We stopped after abbot 2 or 3 yards. I was maybe going 5 or 10 mph. I lept to the side of the road thinking why did that just happen. Picked the bike up as Wife came running over. All the kids at the bus stopped were freaked out too. As I road the bike back to the house I told the to always wear a helmet, lol.

When we got the VFR back in the garage, Wife was saying she could not understand how that happens as I ride in the rain all the time. I thought it was maybe because I was not used to the bike yet, but not sure either. When we left for work again about 30 minutes later, I walked down to the end of the road to look at the conditions and found the deep groove marks from the side stand and center stand. I followed them from end up to the start and there it was....about a bike length and a half from were the scraping started was an oily spot about the size of a manhole cover. I must have pulled though it and when I began to accelerate, the back tire broke lose and that why it felt like I went sideways.

Oh well, I am fine, just a little hicky on my knee thanks to my first gear suit. The toe of my new boots are rashed too, but that's what they are for. The left mirror of the bike was snapped off at the stem which is way better than busting out the fairings. The side fairing was already scratched dorm the original owner, but I made it look awesome now, haha. At least it was not on the good side. The bar end was ground up pretty good too, but it was funny how it ended up. It was ground evenly all the way around, so I am just going to sand the roughness off ot it. I also need to file the center and side stand too.

That's it. I think my Harley is haunting me now. In the past week and a half of trading it, I have gotten a speeding ticket and now this, haha. Oh well. My third wreck on a third bike, but going to keep ridding.

ATGATT----Shit happens. That's the bitch about two wheels. At least your OK and the bike sounds fine. Just minor stuff. The good of motorcycling still out weighs the bad IMO.

Total bummer, man...nice to brush-off and fix her up as the alternative to something worse.

Bummer, at least you and the VFR are ok. If your Gen 6 still has OEM tires even if the tread is good get rid of them ASAP.

Glad to hear you're OK and the damage is minor. I've only been down once and the situation was similar. I was making a right hand turn going about the same speed, it happened to be a dark intersection with no street lights and the front end went out on me. I picked up the bike, then went back and what I hit was a huge pile of cinders in the middle of the road. It happens.

Yep, almost anytime i feel an unexpected wheel slip, i walk back to the spot and inspect the road for whatever it was that i missed seeing, sand, oil, antifreeze, pebbles or whatever.

In your case, wet road, stone-cold tires, and just possibly you were still turning a bit and the bike wasn't perfectly straight when you touched the not-so-precise, jerky FI-controlled throttle.

Sorry to hear you had a get-off, but sounds like you and the bike came out relatively ok. Good thing you fliped off the side of the bike and didn't get your leg trapped under the bike. If you did you would understand just how heavy this bike really is.

Glad to hear that you are O.K. Even low speed spills
can lead to serious injury. Bike can be fixed.
Glad also that you got back on and rode. Proper gear
also is a good thing. Ride long, Ride Well.

Hey thanks guys! Yea, not my first spill and probably won't be my last. I went to cycle gear last night and picked up a new pair of mirrors. Not quite right, as they sit lower but it works out better as now my elbows are not the only thing I see, lol.

Since the bar end was chewed up pretty good I took it off and chucked it into my hand drill and then held a file up to it and after a few minutes on my Jerry rigged lathe, it came out pretty good. I will fill in some of the deeper spots wits a small amount of jb weld, sand it smooth and then hit it with some black epoxy spray paint.

The fairing is rough, but not busted. I found a place on line that I can order the vinyl from and I will fix it up that way. In all I may have about 200 bucks after the mirrors and stickers. Not too bad. I am just really really glad that I decided not to put my hard bags on. I had a bunch of stuff to take to work and was too lazy to go to the shed and get them. So I grabbed my backpack instead. That saved me several hundred dollars.

I rode in this morning and it was totally worth it. 28 degrees but the electrics did the trick. Its funny, everyone at work thinks I am nuts.....I think they are boring!

I use to do that in the old days before electrics, with open face helmets, double long johns and lots of sweaters. Any more if it gets in to the fifties or below and I want to have fun on the roads. I'll jump in my goat and beat on it. Yea I'm a wuss of cold weather.

Glad everthing came out OK. Ride On

I have to ask........it is a bitter subject with me........no insurance? I know the argument.......can't afford it.......with motorcycles you can't not afford it. Just asking because you sound like an older guy and your on a newer bike.

Will try to get some pictures up soon. The damage was pretty minimal. I Amy actually leave the side as is just as a reminder to always be aware. Toecutter, I have insurance and would never get on the road without it, full coverage actually. The deductable is 250, so I figured that I would just make the repairs myself without letting them know since it would only come out of my pocket anyway and my rates would certainly go up too. Went on a long ride too this past weekend. Wound up going straight up the side of a mountain on Waldens Ridge Road on the north side of Clinton, TN. On google maps, it looked like a nice curvy road, and it was, but it turned into a gravel road pretty quickly. The road was in excellent shape, just steep. The VFR sure was heave on the gravel and it was a butt puckering 3 miles, especially going down the other side with the skinny and narrow switchbacks. I was pretty nervous, but the suspension did fine. Next time I will do a better route selection, but mark the VFR as an adventure tourer as well. I then proceeded to get on 116 which is aka the Devils Triangle. It was ok, but I will not be doing that road again. The east leg of it is very chewed up from the coal trucks, STEEP drop offs with no guard rails and gravel everywhere. The west leg looked to be newly paved and went through Frozen Head State Park for a few miles. It was a better ride and no one was really out either. Good day of riding, but I need paper maps for now on, haha.
