So I carpooled half way home for the holiday & then split off & rode the bike the last 175 miles. Was a bit cold at the end (37degF), and a little stressed about riding at night on shot tires, but all was well when I pulled in the driveway. Tore her apart yesterday for a tire change and some fresh oil. Did a bit of general cleaning & inspecting but I didn't find anything to worry about. While I had her apart I decided to take Toe's advice & throw some wax on the plastics and wheels. Riding in Gypsy style My oldest helping tear her apart My youngest helping change the oil Netflix + Mcguires= Waxed plastics! TA-DA! Took her out for a shakedown ride this afternoon, and boy does this engine love the Mobile1! I've never put new rubber on any of my other bikes before, so I'm not sure if it feeling like a completely different bike is normal, but the front end feels like I'm plowing slush... Mabey it's the difference between the regular BT016 and the "PRO" version (which is what I put on), but I think after it breaks in and I get used to it I'll be able to bank over just like I was doing on the last set. Loved the time in the shop with my boys helping, and a BIG thanks to Norcalboy for getting me some torque specs. Tomorow I'll put another 175-200 on the way back to a link-up point. Hope y'all had a good Turkey day!
Any day riding is awesome! Looks like you had a good time with the younguns. I don't have children, so I drag out The Wife to help with chores like that. New tires, in my opinion, always feel "different" at first. Usually takes me about 100 miles or so to get them scuffed up and they get finger printed. I went on a ride today from Knoxville, across the Foothills Parkway, slayed the Dragon and then across Cherohala Skyway. About 225 miles over a few hours. Wanted to try out the bike on some longer trips and I know this one very well to see a difference. The shitty thing was: I GOT A FREAKING TICKET FOR SPEEDING!! But it was lame. Forestry service had a speed trap set up a the bottom of the Skyway along the flat straight area. 67 in a 40, so its not like I was leaving a trail of flames. Damn thing is costing me 175 dollars. Pricks. Anyway, still had fun, and I got to try out my Vista Cruise thing. Makes the superslab bearable.
