I'm dissatisfied with the saddle of my still relatively new to me '96... it's way too forward sloped... always end up riding on my gonads with a wedgie round the other side!!
Too much weight on my wrists as well, even with Gen-Mar risers.

I've tried to no avail finding a reasonably priced Corbin or Sargent (that 2 piece one looks nice) so a rebuild on my otherwise perfect condition stocker appears the only option.

Sargent is the usually suggested vendor for these services... I've done business with them before, they're quite pricey and I wasn't all that satisfied with the results. The seat they did for me is an ass-buster on long rides.

Have heard frequently that gel inserts are the solution on thin-ish padded seats (Sargent won't use them).

Anyone have opinions on this, gels, experience with rebuilt seats, maybe referral to service providers? :noidea:

Attempts at a DIY job were so unsatisfactory that I just bought a Sargent.

It was worth the extra bucks in the end.

    Your mileage may vary.

Your best bet is to either Google or Yelp upholsterers in your area and inquire about what they charge. There are a few in my area that are recommended highly on Yelp and appear to have a few motorcycle samples on their website. Some of them will sell you what you need if you really want to DIY.

I have a spare seat for my Ducati I'm looking to have redone so my wife will be more comfy, so that's the route I'm taking for the Duc. For the VFR I am planning on getting a Sargent, until Nov. 30th, they are having a 10% to 15% off with free shipping, putting the one I want under $370.00.

    Cheers!

+1 to what OOTVS says. I've seen some killer work on motorcycle seats from upholsterey shops.

Yep, local upholsterer. Local bike forum can likely recommend a shop with bike experience

Spencer at "A good day to ride" has an excellent reputation on several sites.

Hard to figure out why with so many asses in the saddle, dudes keep tossing away big pesos for what are basically cookie cutter seats and can't seem to get up off their collective asses and seek out a pro upholstery shop.

Gotta figure if these folks in the vehicle upholstery biz can do a car from scratch, a bike seat would be as easy. A quality house will do homework too. The selection of materials is endless too comparing with what is available from the "BIG" two.

Yes and once again an unabashed plug for my guy. Rich's in Seattle (near Seattle now) one pic of me VFR seat here and another on his site of a seat on my yellow and black BMW. Everybody can't make it there but check out what can be done and remember, Stockers Suck!

Yeah, that's what I'd planned on doing, hadn't gotten 'round to it...
Topic on another VFRW forum got me complaining here first! :violin:

Got same referral at at NESR Forums too, checked the site...
I should probably get in touch with them... prices look reasonable to me, better than Sargent's, unless I missed something during my quick scan. [IMG]

OK, I was once in your shoes.

    DIYMotorcycleSeat.com - Home Page

Read and follow. The only thing I did not do was sew it. Took that to a n auto reupholstery place with my own nice vinyl. I like the results.

The real reason I made my own is:

I wanted something like the Sargent World Sport seat. No such luck.

I wanted a little foam removed for the boys. No such luck.

I wanted a place to stiore stuff under the rear cowl.

And I wanted to reach the ground with a 29" inseam.

So I made it myself in my garage and had them stitch up the cover.

Easy, cheap, and looks and feels great. And it did not cost no $325 plus shipping.

    There.

I was referring only to the 3rd & 4th gen. page... seemed like it had stalled for awhile so thought it was time for my minor whine.
Mine is a '96 so I check here frequently.

Probably will get to my seat over the Winter, Thanks All for your suggestions! :biggrin1:
