You said that you bought the bike as a parts bike so do you have another 1986 vfr750? the reason I'm asking is because I'm looking for an 86 750 engine.

Nice. I bought a 87 new and sold it with 55,000 no issues ever. Wish Id kept it. Your find has given me incentive to start a new project.

Well hello again all. Hope all is well! Here's to safe riding and many beers :cheersaf:

The bike is coming along well...

Recently I checked out the carbs again and found the following pics. She is running rich...but honestly I 'm ok with that.

    2011-02-23_09-11-02_536.jpg

I am getting the seat refinished with a local leather "master" who I have a lot of confidence in.

And I DO have one question...

The Kerker exhaust is awesome. Even if it is completely rusted out

There is a clip on the right side...and it looks like it helps secure the can on the exhaust line. The left side has been down...and the clip is no longer there. Any ideas on where to find something like this?

Thanks in advance for the help, and here's to all yalls...

Dude, nice score, I love it when folks, myself included, finds a gem like this. LOL reminds of my 700 and how I found her leaning on her side in a pump house. It was in the way to do the repair I was hired to do. After that, I asked what's the deal with the bike, he laughed and said you want it? it's yours. A few months later she was a doll. My biggest hurdle was finding a decent sit of carbs, these where like some critters had got in there and made a home, so figured there was no way these where ever going to push fuel correctly, that and the lock gas cap was corroded so bad you couldn't get the key in, after it sat with PB blaster being sprayed for a month with me working it, it opened, and to my surprise the tank inside was spotless. Hope it all works out , they are a fun bike. Less new tires, battery chain and Hmm an RR , she fired up and gave a many happy miles. Hint- hint Honda you should be making this Bike again.

Only one of those spark plugs look really fouled. Could you show some closer photos of the hangars on those Kerkers?
I could not see what you were talking about.

Yes, it is very fouled! any quick fixes to learning out that cylinder? lol

and the clips on the exhaust I was talking about are located on the very front side of the cans, the circular clips of shiny aluminum. Notice that one side has it and the other...doesn't

    "D" Eye Why

    Hey guys

I'm stoked about this bike after it has given me a full year of riding. That being said, it's time I got bored and I want to tear it all down again...if anything to help occupy some of my time, as well as get it running better than before.

My plan is to inspect and adjust the valves accordingly, inspect the cams as well as get new brake lines for the front and perhaps replace steering head bearings this winter (my budget permitting)

I have torn down the bike thus far to getting the valve cover bolts off, and I'm stuck now with trying to get the covers off (four bolts removed on both front and rear covers, but the covers themselves are still very much attached) any ideas?

Here's a few pics. If I'm doing anything wrong go ahead and cry FOUL

the radiator spilled out some pretty nasty stuff. Glad to get it flushed!

One curiosity I have is the ticking noise heard here:

EngineTick2.mp4 video by MiddleTBabb - Photobucket

    Hope the link works.

It sounds like valve tick but I wonder if it's the spring loaded cam gear that needs a spring replacing...
