Hi Everyone, I recently laid down my HD Superglide to avoid a sudden left turn by an oncoming car. It was a panic stop for sure and I took a pretty good slide down the street. It really got me thinking about the HD's lack of ABS. Looking ahead, I have been thinking about some bikes I've owned earlier in life like the Yamaha FZ1, Suzuki VStrom 650 and the Kawasaki Concours. With a 30" inseam, I'm spent a lot of trial and error searching for the right fit, style and mix of features. I'm become very interested in the VRF800 or similar sized bikes. The ergonomics site that another member posted helped me eliminate some bikes from serious considertion but it looks like the VRF might be an okay fit for me. Unlike a lot of members, I don't have the tech skills or time to restore or even maintain an older bike. I commute to work - about 30 miles one way and want a reliable, easy to handle, sport touring type ride - doesn't need to be TOO fast - I'm 62 YO and want to ride for as many more years as safely possible. Definitely didn't like the road rash from my recent mishap and can't help but think the ABS brakes could have made a difference. I would greatly appreciate any insight, advice or opinions you'd care to offer. I'm not in a big hurry to make a decision - mySupereglide will be in the hospital for a while. :frown:
My. You are an old bugga. I'm only 56, and I commute 100 milea a day round trip. Love mine. 87,000 miles on this bike since August 06. And I have a back injury I have been nursing since 1978. So yeah. I think the VFR is a wise choice for you. I have the ABS and have used it a couple times. Do what you will, you can't prevent stupid people from driving on the same road as you.
Welcome to the world. FZ1 rider myself, but I'm sure with your riding experiance you will find the right bike. I have nothing but good things to say about the VFR's....up through the 800's
