I brought my new (to me) VF1000R into my local Kawi dealership today (I know them pretty well there from some years of owning KH 400, KH 750, Zeph 750, Zeph 1100, ZRX 1200 and ZX-14)...

The head-tech, about my age (45) did the DOT inspection due to ownership change, then came to me afterwards and said, "I was so glad to look after your bike today, thank you...I looked it over a bit slower because it brought back so many memories for me from such a great era".

Sucks getting old but at least there are bright moments!

The 1000R's are beautiful machines I would probably bust a nut if you left your bike with me for a day!

That's the truth, Gents..I feel very fortunate.

It's left me wondering what other era Jap bikes might bring the same sentiment - perhaps a mint CB 1100F? RD 350? GPZ 1100? Or one of my fav's, the fabled GS 1100 E?

    Dayum I'm getting older!

I dunno...what do you 45 to 50 year old dudes think? What was your "fabled bike-of-memory"? I have a slew of 'em...

I know what you mean. When I took my R in this past summer for inspection, there was a crowd gathering around me before I could even get my helmet off. Some of them asked if they could take pictures and just wanted to talk about the bike and their memories of it. Most knew exactly what it was, while others didn't but knew it was something nostalgic. It is kind of cool. Unfortunately, the 800 doesn't get any attention, but my 500 and 750 still draw a pretty good crowd too.

Put in about 200 miles of county roads on my 500 Tuesday, beautiful day, rode with 3 old friends riding a Honda ST1300, BMW F650GS, BMW R1200GS. Guess which bike got the most looks at the gas and lunch stops?

Geeze,! Back in my high school days, I remember they would just crush anything in roll-on contests... $1000 bucks - I wonder if it's rough?
