I have a 2003 Vtec (6th Gen) and the horn is terrible, i darn't even use it, as it just sounds like Noddy is driving by!
Has anyone fitted a second one to it to create a twin tone or fitted a full new twin one? I don't suppose it'd be too difficult but i just thought i'd ask to see if any of you had done this and could recommend anything to me?

I have only had the bike 2 weeks so not totally familiar with everything yet.

    Thanks guys

    Vida

This has been done many times. Even using FIAMM air horns with the bells cut off. Diaphragm horns are 12 volts, so any really obnoxious horn in a small size can be fitted. Can't say about your trucks (lorries) across the pond but on US trucks there are some ferocious sounding horns that will fit a bike.

The stock Japanese horns are what you might call "apologetic". They suck!

Hey Billy.. Thanks for that mate, yeah the stock one is so ashamful, i cannot live with that. I didnt want to go down the obnoxious route of air horns though, so after doing a bit a snooping around earlier, i decided i'd buy the Motrax Hootaz. They seem just the ticket, and simple to fit. Check out this vid (the one that made me decide to buy) and they're only really cheap.

    Motrax Hootaz

    What do you think??

    cheers fella ;-)

The Motrax looks like 130db? I added a 112db high tone horn, much better than the original. Came in very handy twice this week as a couple people tried to switch in to my lane and take me out. Eventually I'll add a similar low tone horn or something like the Stebel nautilus, 139db.

Loud and obnoxious on a bike is a good thing. Me likey.. Loud pipes may or may not save lives but a loud horn is a damn good second,

    Sidebar:

Got a buddy that builds drag machines. Competes with a fuel roadster and a bracket car. He has a big inch Ford truck and a trailer to haul both competition cars. I go over to see him and he has installed a horn from a Burlington Northern Locomotive on his hauler. The sound of one of those will put the fear of God in ya..

Had a pair of Fiamm horns on a Nighthawk, sounded just like one of my Lincolns of yore. Nothing wrong with them slack jawed mouth breathing cagers thinking they are gona be run ova by a Freightliner

Problem with modern bikes with body work, its kind of a bitch to find mounting spot.

Mounting a Fiamm is kind of kinky IMO. Mounting two is really sick.. What would be way cool for Harleydoods is to slap a couple of those puppies on both sides one of those chrome Vermacht type skidlids that are popular.

Their dive-bombers (Stukas) had sirens. Maybe we could adapt those to our bikes. I had two Fiamms on my Nighthawk on a custom bracket, it didnt look totally kinkafied but it was'nt stock looking either.

Did the Fiamms respect you in the morning? ;)

I wonder if those sirens on the JU's didnt do double duty as RAT's or were strictly psi-ops.

STEBLE HORN IS WHAT YOU WANT. $38 plus $20 for the harness. With plumbers tape (aluminum roll with holes) mounted and zip tied on the left upper fairing mount. Wrapped around the stay put the fairing over and put the bolt back in. VERY EASY AND VERY LOUD. TRUST ME :)

I also switched to the Stebel Horn, but I was able to install it in place of the stock horn. A definite improvement over stock.
