    Greetings everyone.....
So ... I found out recently I will be getting laid off in December. . .
At least I have some time to get a plan together?
I am told I will be getting some severance pay for a few months too, so that is good.

Believe it or not, I am thinking about moving out to California again!
(I lived in Ventura for a couple months back in 1998.)
On the upside, if I do make it out there again -
I am looking forward to possibly joining some of the fun rides and BBQs, etc, all you west coast dudes seem to be having!
I know i would be able to ride my VFR a lot more often than we do up here in the winter!
I will post updates maybe in February???

Thanks, yeah i know - things are tough all over.... Except maybe North Dakota I have heard? ;-)

I work in the computer support field.

In fact, part of my plan is to spend some time in January getting some additional training slash certifications to increase my hire-ability.

It is a bit scary for sure.

Ain't no party like a West Coast party cuz the West Coast party don't stop!!

I hope you have better luck out here in the West. Computer related jobs are difficult because there are so many in that field out here. You have to be the BEST at what you do. Good Luck! :thumb:

    Hi there,

I am an IT tech as well. Put some time in to doing some microsoft certifications if you haven't already.

I can PM you a strategy as to how to study for and pass exams (and actually have an idea when you are finished)..

No-one like studying for certs but they are IMO the most helpful thing when finding a new role.

    Good luck..

let me know if you make it out. I have a few connections in IT out here, but not much. Our hospital is going through a major overhaul in terms of networking and computerized medical record. I also have a friend in IT at the local college. I have no idea if either are hiring, but I'll keep an ear to the ground. And, even if you don't find a job, ride out here for the next R3. It's sure to be a good time.

East coast, from DC to Boston actually has a lot of IT positions. I am an IT manager at a hospital, I have a Network Engineer 3 position open, for almost a year, cause I can't find the right person, and haven't had that many qualified candidates...

Virgo - Lee Enterprises, the paper I work for, is looking for application developers. Davenport, Iowa. Few miles south of you. Decent time to ride, several groups that do. Yeah, it's a newspaper industry, but we aren't doing bad. There is also the Rock Island Arsenal here as well, which is always hiring. (DRS Technologies) which, being a government job, pays quite well. A lot of red tape, lot of people with bloated heads, just like doctors (worked at a hospital, so I know all about that)

I'm in IT as well, and it's not horrid around here. But, as far as entertainment goes, it's getting into the slow season.

Also seems to be quite a bit going on in Dubuque, IA, for IBM. Great roads up that way, and a decent riding season.

Broaden your scope. The transportaion industry is heavily involved in techy stuff. Scheduling and maitaining schedules is getting more and more important. And the business is going that way my marrying up GPS, and real time computer apps. My company just spent over 44M on the so called latest and greates in computers and GPS scheduling crap that required a huige IT department to keep all of us neadrethals somewhat competent on the computers we use for this purpose. Believe it or not, public transportaion is more critical in meeting timing points that the airline industry. If a bus does not arrive at a certain timing point along the route, then it doesn't meet its expected connecting bus. All computer run.

You may have to enter the work force of a large corporation and tough it out for a couple years doing such things as data entry. But once you have your foot in the door, you can show your wears and apply within. Good luck

Maybe see you are R3 2012. You can show me how to turn on my Garmin GPS and pair it with my Chatter box and vibrator.

If you can, why not try get some of that training done now, at your present companies expense?
Good luck whichever way things go.
