84 VF700. picked it up months ago, just got around to getting it going, only thing I had to do was clean the kill switch, and replaced both of the hand levers. I believe that I got a good deal on it. 860 bucks and took it home. Be honest let me know if I got hosed or if it was a good buy. it's got 50k on it, was always garaged was one owner and he used it for long trips. got a tank bag, a clymers manual, and the helmet he bought when he bought the bike. it runs great, will probably do a full tuneup and replace tires and brake pads. looking for some good sounding cans to replace the stock exhaust, it's booring sounding.

Sure looks fantastic in the pics. I would suggest you pull the cam covers and check those cams before you ride it too much. They might be fine; but a significant percentage of the 1st gen V-4's had problems. The other area of concern would be the cam chain tensioners; but they make quite a racket when they're going. There are fixes for both problems, and the bikes are still fantastic to ride. If you want more 'tone', one of the few options would be Cobra F1 cans.

Looks real nice. If all is well, I'd say you got a great deal. Enjoy!

Very nice 1st gen. You definitely got a deal! I wouldn't worry about the cams at this stage. The cam chain tensioners are a different story. If it's quite and doesn't "rattle" at idle or above, then all is well.

so it is making a bit of noise, and I have not gotten into the manual, is there a valve adjustment? because that's what it sounds like it needs, like my cb 550 sounded, and the valve adjustment cleaned up the sound. or am I looking at a tensioner? either way i'll fix it.

Yes, the valves are adjusted with pretty conventional tools (no shims). Plenty of resources here for procedures.
