I need a new chain and new tires, Preferably some that could handle a wet and dirty road, maybe some gravel here and there.

 Both of these subjects have been :deadhorse:. Buy the most expensive tires you can afford, if you don't like them, try out a different set. A modern chain with an o-ring or x ring in it and keep it lubed, especially if you're riding in the wet and or gravel.

You are pretty limited due to the tire sizes the VF500F has. Mine came with Bridgestone BT45's which I like alot for the way I ride. More aggressive riders don't care for them especially on newer faster bikes.

I'd look for an EK, RK or DID chain. X or W ring is preferred over O ring these days for longevity.

for the performance capabilities of the vf500 I'd go with a DID 0-ring chain. IMO even the vf700 doesnt have the balls to need an x-ring. As for tires, there are not many left for the 1st gen bikes but I have been running a bridgstone this year. works really good.

The X or W shape of the o-ring is better suited to hold lube and not bind so it will last longer and maybe have less drag, it isn't stronger.
