I have 4000 miles on my VFR, all but 700 have been on my recent trip out west to Red Lodge Montana. I noticed the low throttle surge in the first 700, but attributed that to getting used to a new bike and it's characteristics. While most notable at low speed maneuvering, and bumper to bumper traffic, throttle control was a bit touchy in the twisties as well. To be honest, I didn't pay attention to the surge threads since I didn't think it pertained to me, but since getting back I have read them and it is exactly what I am experiencing. I'm going to bring it in for the 4,000 mile service and see what they find, if anything. I tried the RPM test that was mentioned in the UK thread, I couldn't do it. I could get to 2K, but not 3, it would jump from about 2400 to 4K, I couldn't hit 3500 either going up or going back down. I tried this on my other two bikes and could do it, no problem. I have to tell you I love the bike so far, but this is extremely irritating to me. If there is no solution to this problem, the bike will probably have to go, there are some things you can live with and some you can't, for me this is a, I can't.

Do the PAIR valve mod. I think you'll like the results, takes about ten minutes, there's all sorts of threads for it.

The PAIR valve shouldn't create this kind of condition. With a warm engine the PAIR valve is closed anyway when the throttle is opened. Of course this depends on the TPS giving the computer the right information about the throttle position. It really sounds more and more like a TPS problem, and is something I'm going to investigate on my bike. If people have indeed suppressed this problem by disabling the PAIR system, it means they've only masked the real source of the problem.

I agree, If blocking the PAIR valve helps, that's great but it shouldn't have to be done to correct a problem on the bike. Yesterday I was in a Taco Bell parking lot, as I'm exiting my parking space and the clutch is now disengaged, normally you think you would have no problem slowly proceeding thru a parking lot. Well, at around 2300 RPM, it surges to 4K, so I'm now going much faster thru the lot and have to slip the clutch just to proceed at a safer speed. This seems to have been going on for more than a few years, since I'm now looking thru older threads and other sites, I'm really surprised that honda hasn't corrected a problem that seems to have been around since 2002, every year you get nice new colors, but not a throttle response fix????

Can I pick up on this thread? I'm experiencing similar issues with my 03 and I wonder if you found the culprit and what the solution was...Thanks.

my 07 rwb doesnt like low rpms. would a power comander help? i noticed mine in a parkin lot too. i dont mind fixing the problem, but i dont want to just put a band-aid on it. for a bike that screams up thru the gears, it seems odd.
