    hi everyone i am going to be the proud owner of a 1984 vf700f comming next month. the overall condition of the bike is imaculant(except the broken front master cylinder which i ordered and is on the way). i am wondering what you would recomend as first checks. i already plan on changing the oil, spark plugs, clean the carbs, and clean the tank. other then those what would be a good starting point on running through and making sure that everything is going smooth.plus this is my first v-four motor so im assumeing its like any other motor ive worked on.

    Front brake sliders. The front calipers slide on pins/bolts and have rubber boots sealing them. The rubber boots after many years deteriorate letting in water and junk. Even if they look good, normal condensation will create a reaction between the aluminum legs and steel bolts. The holes will powder up and the pins/sliders will stick. Giving bad braking response or nun at all. You may want to replace all the boots/seals for the front brakes, use a light grease on the pins.. Same with rear brake so it doesn't hang up and drag.

    When you change your brake mc remember to either tilt it forward so the banjo bolt connection gets lower than the floor of the mc or take it off. Air gets trapped at the banjo connection when the mc is bled in its normal position. Same for the clutch mc.

    Braided brake lines really help the braking on the gen 1's. Along with better than stock pads. Take a look at the caliper pucks/seals to make sure they are in good shape. You can still buy seals and mc rebuild kits.

    Seeing your in CA get rid of the antifreeze in the cooling. It does raise the boiling point but it also keeps more heat in the system. Use distilled water, rust inhibitor and something like Water Wetter. It will run cooler in hot weather. Bonus is to put a switch in parallel with one of the fan grounds. You then can turn fans on/off when you want. Helps turning them on as you get in to city standstill traffic or the like. Motor and you stay a lot cooler.

    That's good for starters. Have fun with it. They are still good bikes if setup right.

    also brake fluid flush. the stuff absrbs water, promoting rust/corrosion in the systems. thats no bueno.

    and a good carb synch. beware though, synching carbs on an interceptor is a PITA.
