Been lurking a bit - the long and short of it:

I got back into riding 2 years ago (after a 16 year break, last bike was an 85 GSF) and bought a 2002 VTX 1800C. Rode the hell out of it (17,000 miles in 2 years) and spent some time and $$$ making it fit my needs and appearance wants...I really love the bike (still have it).

Last fall, I decided to look into the ST thing since that is what I use the VTX for (mainly). Even went so far as to take it to my local fav dealer, get a trade in value and test rode a ST1300...well, the ST1300 didn't thrill me enough to give up my VTX...but I still couldn't shake the ST bug.

Lo & behold I remembered the VFR from years ago...and always liked them so, I started looking for one a few weeks ago. The good news is - If purchased for the right price, I could buy the VFR and keep the VTX. In the end, I figure one bike will win out over the other.

    I picked up a 99 VFR on Saturday - 9000 miles, bone stock w/slip on & a killer price.
I drove 3 hours through drifting snow (but only 60 miles, top speed 35mph) to get her but, get her I did.

I've spent the week going through the bike - disassembled, changed all fluids, lubed all rotating points, new brake pads, battery, cleaned and regrounded all points, etc...and upon inspection, a new regulator (Voltage was reading high, had a burn hole in the back of it and solder had flowed out - the dealer I bought the bike from gave me a new one N/C). Also replaced some bolts and clips that were missing.

Got her back together today and went for my first lengthy VFR ride (weather was actually good here, just a little sloppy).
WOW - I now understand the lure of the gear driven cams.

Anyway - I'm looking forward to racking up the miles...I wonder how much the VTX will sit...

Thanks for all the info provided on this site - it has been a great help with the learning curve on the VFR.

    See ya around!

Hi Zam, welcome back to riding and also to the wonderful world of VFR's. If Ihad to guess, I would think the VTX will less road time than the VFR. But then that's just my opinion. We are glad to know that the info here was helpful to you. Now you don't have to lurk anymore. lol.

hey, welcome to the group, glad to have you here. it sounds like you really know your way around a bike. you did a hell of a job checking your bike out. if more people did that there would probably many fewer problems...

JRotten - Virden IL (30 miles south of Springfield)...not quite your neck of the woods - your area is a helluva lot more interesting...nothing but corn, beans and flat straight roads here...good thing is, I'm only 40 minutes north of the grafton area...nice ride in that area.

    Nice to be here...
