My name is Doug and I just recently sold my supermoto bike and bought a 1998 VFR800. My plan is to ride it as far across the country as my schedule allows, commute to school and work on it when weather permits, and do track days when my wallet is feeling a bit fatter. It has 24,000 miles. I have a good set of tires now, bike came with unknown brand of touring tires, they sucked. I cant remember exactly which tires i went with (just got them yesterday and bike is at my parents house so ill look later) but i know they are the same as i had on my supermoto. Nice sticky dual compound tires. Looking to do as much as i can to make my bike a track ready VFR by springtime next year. All suggestions will be greatly apreciated.

Congrats on the new ride. You should be able to do everything you listed above!

Make sure you check out the electrical components on the bike first. These VFR's are notorious for needing some upgrades (relatively cheap), but will provide you with years of hassle free ownership after that. Use the search function on the forum and look for Regulator/Rectifiers. Check out www.wiremybike. for some upgrades as well.

Most people look into aftermarket seats for any long distance running. The stockers kinda suck. Corbin or Sargent are available, or get a custom made/modified.

thanks for the info. what kind of electrical problesm are we talking about here? I am pretty lost when it comes to electronics, but ironically I am in basic electricity class at school right now so that should clear some things up. charging systems seems to work great, as well as lights, starter, etc.

VFR's are strictly made for leisure riding and touring and that is why you often see them with hard bags. Our friend Sebspeed seen in the pic below fully agrees with me !! Welcome aboard Doug!!
