Hello Fellow VFR enthusiasts. I fell in love with a 1985 Interceptor 500 in a Honda showroom in 1985. I knew if I bought it I would kill myself, so I opted for a 82 Yamaha Maxim 400. (Back then there was a surplus of Japanese bikes and I bought the 82 Maxim brand new in 85 for $999!) Great bike to learn on and had a lot of fun until an oncoming car turned left in front of me. Trashed the bike and my leg and I was out of motorcycling for a long time. In 1994 I couldn't stay away any longer and found a broken 85 Interceptor 500 that needed a good home. It also had a spun rod bearing so it needed a new crankshaft and all the other rebuild items. After a long rebuild learning process I had it running in the Spring of 1996 and now 15 years later it is still my ride. It has a few issues that I hope some of you can help me with, but I'll post those questions later. tbrichey

Great story! Welcome to the forums! You are in the right place. Having said that, I am very skeptical about this "motorcycle" you say you have.

Hi, I am now a '99 VFR800 owner. Love it so far once I adjust. Haven't owned a bike for a couple of years. Have owned many, including BMW's, and a Ducati. My first 170 mile ride left me with a pain in the shoulder. May have to get a handlebar riser or do more riding. I can remember when the first Interceptor came out. loved it then and love it even more, now that I own one. Looking forward to long rides (need bags). Most sport touring bikes have bags, but are too heavy for me. I used to own a ST1100 and liked everything except the weight. Hope to visit often.

I added a couple pics of my 85 500 in the 1st/2nd generation gallery under tbrichey. I haven't figured out how to add them here.
First question though about my bike. For some time now my fuel line seems to get an air lock and after riding about a block it dies. When this happens I have to remove the seat, take off the left side cover, disconnect the fuel line where it goes into the fuel filter and crank the engine until the fuel starts to flow again. After this process, it's fine - at least until the next time I start it. I generally go through this process now every time I start it, just so I don't have to pull over and dismantle the bike beside the road. Anybody ever have this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks

Hmmm I would tell you to check the petcock or the gas cap, the gas cap has a built in breather it a small hole in it take some carb cleaner and spray the crap out of it.

The fifth gens are great bike you can tour with them do a spirited ride through the mountains and even track them. The only thing I tell new fifth gen owners is to replace the stock regulato/rectifier with a ricks electronics R/R and a VFRness from wire my bike.com the stock ones are junk and will leave you stranded if it hasn't already been done.
