I've searched the forums and googled and gotten very ambiguous results....

I know the givi side racks mount to the OEM fender (from the givi installation instructions), but what have people done to get around this? The 2002 I just picked up only has 2700 miles, but it has a fender elminiation kit installed (along with Muzzy Stash Exhaust). My givi sidebags and mounts should be showing up tomorrow but need some tips before I begin.

Hints with pictures will be even more appreciated! LOL

Either you're gonna have to put the bracket back in, or you'll have to fabricate one that is low profile enough to suit you're liking. If I didn't love my bags I'd have gutted the ass end of the bike the day I bought it... It's a compromise. In either case, with the bags on you're not going to be able to have the plate up between the exhaust cans. The bracketry will obstruct the plate.

You are absolutely right.... When I installed my sidemounts, the bottom 2/3's of my plate was blocked by the rear mount bracket

I wound up attaching my plate to the rear mount bracket - just opened up the holes on my plate a touch and used the same bolts as the ones that attach the sidearms to the bracket to hold the plate in....

One thing I noticed is that I don't have a rear license plate light... Am I suppose to?

Legally you're supposed to have a light. The relocator kit that my 98 came with has the light for the plate.

Can you post a picture of what you did? Side-racks are in my plans for the winter so I want to see what I might have to do. Was thinking just a rod going from side to side.

It's pretty obvious if you look at the givi installation - there's a pdf floating around this forum somewhere....

The givi piece that is suppose to connect the two side pieces to the rear fender is a flat T-plate.... The bolt holes just happened to line up perfect with PA plates. I just had to drill out the plate holes so the GIVI bolts would fit through it.

Now I just have to figure out how to deal with the license plate light deal... I'll post a pic later next week (got my kids baseball all weekend and my bike is in the shed)....

I didnt have any problems, whatsoever. I didnt have the orig. fender and after piecing the luggage rack together, you dont really need it. I should have the lic. plate light hooked up, but don't, oh well

Depends on the state apparently. In CO you only need one mirror, a headlight, a horn, a tail light, and a brake light operated by either the hand or foot. No signals, no license plate light required by law.

now a car is another story - license plate light required.

I wound up going back to the dealer I bought the bike from... Since they inspected the bike before I bought it, I asked how it passed without a light

Guess they realized they shouldn't have passed it, they installed two led lights that go where 2 license plate bolts... Problem solved :))

Also added a givi top plate with a top box... so now it really looks like a big rig! Lol
