Question about VTEC valve adjustment procedure

    Yes I just pulled that pin/wire from the ECM. Pretty simple.
    Per the wiring diagram, and per my own thorough inspection, the solenoid gets it signal directly from the ECM. There's no relay in between, which surprised me.
    I really hate I have to go through this. I love this bike to death, but in the 3 Hondas I've owned (2 CBR's and this VFR) I have sure had my share of problems.

    I was thinging that if the lock pins are actuated by oil pressure, there is presumably a spring which retracts them when the oil pressure is removed. If one of the said springs was damaged, the pin may not retract properly and may occassionally catch on the hole producing the noise.

    There is no problem NOT having VTEC timing changes.
    Almost all engines work with one timing configuration.

    Honda is just using this to lower emissions and it is too complicated.
    Separate valves and separate timing. Cheeesssshhhh!!!

    The people that race these bikes probably dump at right away.

    If it was me and I too e engine apart I would want get rid of it anyway. Just one set of valves and timing controlled by computer or mechanical advance.

    Every since they let the car engine people into the motorcycle design dept they want to make the motorcycle engine like a car and cover it all up with plastic.

    I am going to ask this question in this thread, even though I know there are numerous oil related threads out there.
    Is it OK to use FULL SYNTHETIC OIL in this bike??? My local shop says no synthetic at all, as over time it will adversely affect clutch operation. Any truth to this? And does the synthetic a guy uses have to absolutely be motorcycle oil, or can it just be regular old synthetic like Mobil 1 or Valvoline synthetic that I can buy at Walmart???

    Actually there is nothing complicated at all about how the VTEC works on this bike. It functions on very basic principles. I think the notion of VTEC on a bike, and the level of sophistication that is associated with VTEC is just too much for a motorcycle though and the the actual system itself has no practical place on a bike. Other manufacturers meet emissions and make good power without this kinda stuff. Honda just got carried away.

    Well, the noise is back. I guess the VTEC whatever isn't the problem.
    This just really pisses me off.
    Anybody wanna buy a VFR CHEAP????

    Not necessarily, if there is a vtec slide pin floating around it could catch at any time.
    No problems with using a full synthetic either, but personally I would stick to a bike one.
    I dont think it would help your problem though.
