Hop...you have done a LONG "restoration" on yours from the ground up ...

as to you question about engineering stuff... exhaust pipes have to match ... and other things...LOL... I am a cut and fit kind of person I like to cut stuff and make it fit but it is the wrong way to do exhaust >>>LOL keep your 1st gen together and ride it and buy another bike THEN do all the mods you feel like doing... Go crazy with it....
And I think VF500Matt did a wheel conversion on his 500... would have to back track through the threads to find it...

How long to do the pipes or the whole bike? The bike took about 16 months but I have a family and a life so there were sometimes breaks in the action, not to mention 4-5 winter month's of no action at all. Technically still not done. I probably went over board on some stuff but...

The pipes could probably be done in a day by a professional if you knew exactly what to tell them you wanted. Definitely have to plan on moving/deleting some items to make it work.

It's actually not an under seat but an under tail. Mine doesn't go directly under the drivers seat. No heat to my rump at all.

Sounds to me like months for someone who isn't a professional, doesn't know exactly what they're doing, and has to do it piecemeal with the usual number of starts and stops. This would be for the whole project. The pipes, sure, one day for a pro to work from some very complete drawings.

I cant imagine how you'll hit 110 without juice or a turbo. Even if you do the 750 conversion you still have to find 20 more horses. Plus, I don't fully believe Honda's published numbers so you may have even further to go than that...

Then there is the issue of reliability...

I think you underestimate the potential, Mobtown. With the right cams, a little headwork (porting, etc.), appropriate breathing upgrades and a modified rev-limiter it wouldn't be out of the question. Gotta put on an oil mod and the updated tensioners; but I've seen 111hp at the wheel on an '83 VF750F. Where there's a will, there's a way...

I have a salvege titled 2003 SV1000 that I bought to use for the engine. I wonder if that would fit in a VF500F frame? It's ~110hp rear wheel in stock form. The distance from the center of the sprocket to the front edge of the front head is within 1/2" of the VF500 engine. I haven't measured the height from the center of the sprocket to the top of the rear head yet. I do have a welder and cutting torch just in case. Prolly has 3X the torque of a VF500 engine too, ~84ftlbs.

i have plenty of will so i guess there is a way. i'm going to stick with do little bits and pieces here and there until i get my 954 all up and about for abuse. but once i start the big boy mods i'll start posting pics guys! turns out i need a master cylinder for my front brakes too so i have to worry about that before anything. but hey it'll get there eventually

STOP dreaming ! For what that would cost you could get a gen2 and stop worring about top-end oiling and cam destruction and be the benificiary of years of smart engineers at Honda who knew they needed to solve gen 1 problems.

Someday i'll get banned cuz of unconventional ideas, until then deal with it. Actually, it would cause less offence if members disregarded me entirely. Sumi masen.

Hey squirrel, maybe he wants a VF700? In the rebuilding process the cam oiling and tensioner problems can be addressed. That stuff is well documented someplace. Would it be a Gen 2? No. It would be a Gen 1 with all kinds of cool stuff and performance to match - or beat - that Gen 2. I can see the appeal in that.

His bike his money his dream, desire, obsession...let him do it the way he wants. Why not get the exhaust system from a sixth gen?

i understand the problems 1st gens have but i still love them cause my dad had one since before i was born so i grew up with one and now own one so it's more of an emotional attatchment that has this thing still alive and in plans for a re-vamping.

The model T didn't win three AMA super bike championships and dominate for three years either.

I didn't have a problem keeping up with or even passing Joey_Dudes 98 or Georgia Riders 06 when ran the northern Georgia mtns. or the Skyway with my Gen 1. They did have me on top end though.

Setup right they can still be great bikes. Keep up the work and do it right and you will be happy with your Interceptor. It's the only one with a 360 degree crank like the RC30/45 bikes. A sound of it's own. The under tail exhaust with stock swing arm is not the way to go IMO.
