My previous mounting position for the Stebel just did not work, clearance issues as Mohawk pointed out... :( bummer, it looked so good to! So on to Plan B. Actually this was probably plan R, I tried a bunch of other locations before I stumbled across this solution.

This mounts up so well it is freaky, it is almost like it was designed for it. Simply remove the OEM horn, and then remove the mounting bracket for it. The bolt that attaches the oem horn in place to the bracket is the exact same size as the Stebel mounting bolt, how lucky is that?

All you need to do is put the Stebel bolt on with the horn attached, and turn the bracket around it until the bracket is tight and even across the top of the horn and then bolt the horn bracket with the Stebel attached back into place, pretty easy! It fits perfect and requires zero modifications, how easy is that?? Plenty of clearance, it is out of the way and fits PEFECT, looks like it came from the factory like that.

Thanks for the info. I always like to upgrade my horn...can you tell me what the exact model of Strebel horn that is? Is that the Strebel Compact Nautilus?

It's in a far better position now that it allows the suspension enough room for it's required travel.
A road test may have been catastrophic.
I believe that Stebel requires that the unit be installed within 15 degrees of vertical. From your pictures it seems not to meet that requiement.
Did you get the relay mounted in a good location?
I hope my comments are a help to you. They are intended to help you meet the safe and functional requirements of the device.
    Good luck.

Did you get the relay mounted in a good location?

The wiring set up was cake, a 10 minutes job at the most, the relay zip tied to the frame just behind the battery, worked perfect and I have a central mount point for + and - wires so it was very simple.

Yes they do say "The air cylinder of the horn must be mounted vertically, with no more than a 15 degree variance from vertical". I'm not sure how important that is, I had this same horn mounted on my Strom verically like this for 2+ years without issue so I think this is more of a recommendation.

I'm going to email the support staff and see if I can track down the "why" on that req, might have to re-evaluate again and go with a plan S :) I am rapidly running out of options for it... what a PITA mounting this thing is! I have the space taken already with other electronics that most people use for the mounting location. The next plan up would be to the top right of the gas tank using the right upper bolt to mount a bracket that I would have to fab up.

Any word on how necessary it is to mount the horn within 15* of vertical?

Also, would you post pics of the wiring kit? I can't seem to find a pic anywhere and just want to know what to expect.

    Thanks

No, response yet, I emailed them twice at info@stebel.it with pics attached and I also e-mailed joe@stebel-usa.com (bounced) who was the contact on their US site and have yet to get a reply. We bounced it around here at work and think the reason is for strain on the mounting bracket. If that is the reason, I am very comfortable with it mounted like that the bracket is pretty sturdy!! :)

I'll be glad to take some pics of the wiring soon, a really nice dude stopped me on the way home yesterday and let me know that I had a light out son my taillight so I will be replacing it tonight (hopefully!) and can take pics of the wiring, remember though I bought the relay kit which makes it ultra easy, wire to to the battery, connect one wire to ground which goes to the horn, one wire to horn, the other two wires to the OEM horn wires, just plug them in. On a difficulty scale I would give it a 2 only because you have to disconnect the battery to connect the wires.

That'd be great Steve. I figured the wiring kit would make it easy. I really want to see what you did to make it clean, aesthetically pleasing, and just plain neat-o..

Here you go, you lucked out, I had to re-wire my heated grips to use a switched wire instead of hot (left them on and drained the battery...twice!! :( ) so I had everything off today and was able to get the pics of the wiring on the back half. Not sure about the aesthetically pleaseing or neat-o part, but it works :) The relay is zip tied to the frame behind the battery. As far as the front, the ground wire attached right to the horn braket, the yellow wires goes to the other connector on the horn, the blue and the black wires go to the existing horn connectors, and the other two are for the battery, can't get much easier!
