I am going on a four day ride Aug.25-28 and I'm having trouble deciding where to go. Point of origin is the Pikes Peak region of Colorado (Deckers). I have narrowed my choices down to two but I am also free to go someplace else if a good idea arises. So far.....1) ride great roads in SW Colorado (again), 2) head up to the Black Hills of South Dakota, or 3) head to the northwest towards YellowStone.

I'm leaning on the Black Hills option because it would be something new. Just last month I rode down to NM and back into SW Colorado so not all that fired up for that route. Unfortunately, I'm also not all that keen on spending two of my four days on relatively straight roads getting to SD and back. What I seek from fellow VFR riders to help in my decision are the following:
    A) Do any of you have recomendations on good ways to get from Colorado to say, Hot Springs, SD?
    B) Are there any good roads northwest of Steamboat Springs into Wyoming/Utah?
    C) Are the roads in the Black Hills worth the effort (comparied to SW Colorado)?

Any feedback/recomendations would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

BLACK HILLS BLACK HILLS BLACK HILLS!

Ive gone out there 4 of the past 5 years for bike week, and it is awesome! Iron Mountain Road, Needles Highway, Spearfish Valley Road, Nemo Road, The Wildlife Loop, any where on 16a, Etc... are all beautiful rides. I would highly recommend to anyone, especially if you have never been.

    Hi Guj....thanks for the reply!
As it turned out, I bailed and stayed here in Colorado. I concluded (the night before departing ) that to do the Black Hills justice, I needed an extra day. So I took the easy choice and went zooming around SW Colorad again. Had a fantastic ride. Covered 1328 miles of in four days. Not any iron butt but four full days of riding none-the-less. Day two covered 536 miles with minimal highway time (personal best)! I really enjoyed riding north from Grand Junction on SH139 to Rangely, CO., gateway to Dinosour National Park.....mostly senic twisty stuff with a few long straights where I could see far enough ahead to maintain triple digits for a mile or two........that feeling of rolling out of a series of curves and seeing nothng in front of you then twisting the throttle, crossing the VTEC threashold into "hot rod mode", and through fourth, fith, then sixth gear....hello 110-plus....see a car, slow down quick! :^) Repeated as conditions permitted.

Enjoy the remainder of the riding season!

No problem. Sounds like you had a pretty good weekend journey any way.

Sounds like a part of the country that I will definitely have to check out sometime!

Keep us posted on the future trips.
