Pulling CARBS off for repairs. Will also be doing cleaning and replacing various rusted bolts and other stuff.
Wondering if it is worth the extra money for iridium plugs or stick with the resister plugs. Had to do a search at work using my I phone

I have already run iridium plugs in my 87 model 700 (as well as my cage) very successfully, and when i asked my lifetime career mechanic his opinion on them, he shared my viewpoint that iridium plugs are well worth the investment. There are 2 companies that make them, Denso and NGK. I personally prefer Denso over NGK due to the thinner electrode on the Denso plug.

Iridium is ABSOLUTELY worth it. believe me, BUY THEM. I only put generic plugs in my bike because I needed to tune it, and wanted to know it'd run right. now that I've achieved that, I'm going for iridiums.

Is there a noticeable difference with the iridium plugs?

a little extra power and a little better miledge both result from a more complete fuel burn, but dont expect miracles from spark plugs....but i still say theyre worth every penny.

the denso plugs can be easily found on sparkplugs.com, and the ones for the 2nd gen VFR carry part number IX27B.

Cool, I will have to make a note of that and pick up a set the next time I see some on sale.

Right now the bigger issue for me is figuring out the pilot screw situation on my bike. It looks like a PO screwed one in all the way and then it snapped... so I've got a bike that dose not idle well at the moment.

That is amazing--can you imagine the amount of force it took to break off that screw?

Is the piece still in the hole or has it been removed? Wonder if the bore has been stretched out to where it cracked or is too large for a new screw? May need to replace the carb body...

Got into it last night to examine closer... and lucked out! The limiter cap cement let go so it was just spinning on the screw. Whew! Was able to pop limiter off and unscrew it just fine (it was only 1 turn out... think I found why my idle sucked).

Any way you slice it, someone over tightened the screw at some point. And judging by the fact that this particular screw was missing an o-ring, and another was missing a washer, clearly whoever did it shouldn't have been messing with the carbs.

Thanks for the info. Picked up NGK IRIDUM plugs today. Went to O 'Reilly and found them for $6.99 each. So much cheaper then the Honda shop. Hope to get the project started next week.
