I have a better solution: run without one. I convert all of my VF's to gravity feed. I've been left stranded because of pump and/or relay failure one too many times.

It's really easy to do. Just take the line from the pump to the carbs and connect it to the tank outlet instead of the pump. That's it! I like to include a sintered bronze filter (like dirt bikes use) in the line just in case. Anything more restrictive will inhibit the fuel flow. I've never had any problems running my bikes this way. In fact, I can't tell the difference.

    I hope this helps!

I agree, I don't know why they use a pump for carburetor engines? Any other carb bike Nighthawk ect were gravity feed. maybe some one here can tell us why they use a pump anyways?

I think it was a CYA kind of thing. The pumps don't really put out much pressure, just a couple of psi. The entire tank is above the carbs so gravity has plenty to work with. I've heard of high hp drag bikes having problems running without a pump, but my understanding is it was only with extreme cases. I've never heard of anyone having a problem on the street.
