Here's my theory but keep in mind that I'm prolly talking out my *** on this one.

Just looking on what bmw had for oem tires on the k1300s. From what I've found they at least at some time or another were going with a sport tire. I mean there's not much weight difference. Anyway got a pair of Metzeler M3s going on tonight.

I searched here on the subject but couldnt really find alot of info on anybody wanting to move off of st tires.

I'm not really worried about mileage since all I do is fun runs with liter bikes.

Thinking about Michelin 2CT's. I really do not like the stock Bridgestones. It will be Michelin or Pirelli either way. Ride safe.

Yea JMHO but the stock stones are really bad. I know that a rear tire will walk out on you in a turn but the stones will walk out quite a bit. My wife gives me an ear full about it every time we are riding hard and she is riding shotgun. I guess she should know since she is sitting right over the top of it.

I think its official. If I can get at least 1k miles out of a set then I think I will stick with sport tires.

Why stick with a tire you can only get 1k out of? There are good tires out there that "stick" and you still get good mileage out of them. Pilot Road 3's, Pirelli Angels, errr...where's my list of tire options! lol A heavy bike like the VFR1200 is going to eat up supersport tires like kids on a lollipop. But, it's your money! lol

I've got over 5k on the original set of Dunny-slops that mine came with. They have never acted sketchy at anytime what so ever. Rain, hot slick asphalt and dirty roads. I'm going to put Pirelli Angel's on next. Just because I've never ran a Pirelli before, they've gotten good reviews from what I've seen too.

    Just my two bits worth.

    vfr1200f 591lbs

    k1300s 560lbs
    zx14 566lbs
    busa 573lbs

All of which come with oem sport tires or people run sport tires on frequently. I just dont think 18-31lbs is gonna make a whole lot of difference on tire wear. 1k is just a low estimate. From what I read people are getting 2k at least out of sport tires on these heavy bikes. I have run the PR2s and Angels on other bikes and they are sticky but the disclaimer is (for a sport touring tire). I know it will cost me a little more in the long run but the bikes performance on twisies has increased at least two fold over the Bridgestone stockers. I'd say its money well spent.

1k miles down and they still look like brand stinkin new. at this rate I should get about 3.5-4k outta them. Hell, only got 4.5k with the stones and I was slipping and sliding the whole time.

I am using dunlop sportsmart tires. They are very good. A lot of grip neutral steering. They will last at least 5000 km.

If I can pull at least 2/3 the mileage of the st tires, I should be in the black on the deal money wise since they are 2/3 the cost. The M3's have been doing good so I might stick with them but was also thinking of running a original recipe pilot powers and see how that goes. Been kinda snooping around the Busa forums since they run about the same weight and they seem to be getting around 3.5 to 4k miles too so I'm figuring estimates on my wear to be about the same.
