    86 VFR700 - 26K miles

Bought this bike earlier in the year from the second owner who had it dealer serviced. Cleaned the carbs and its been running great since.

Did an oil change Wednesday. Even went as far to cut open the oil filter just to see if anything was in it. Nothing.
Pull the clutch into a parking spot today and it dies instantly. Confused I hit the starter switch and it cranks slow like somethings holding it back. It fires and I'm greeted by a metal on metal scraping sound.

Trying to avoid further damage had a buddy come with a trailer. Sound seems to be gone now but something has got to be wrong. Any ideas before I valve covers to find a smoked cam? What would cause something like this? No oil light, but it behaves as if its starving for oil.

You say that you pulled the clutch and the engine died instantly. My 1st thought is to pull the RH cover and inspect the clutch assembly, the starter clutch and the starter idle gear.

It acted as if something was seizing. I was moving when i pulled the clutch, so throttle was keeping it running until I pulled the clutch at idling into the spot it was enough to kill it.

Very strange as these engines are just shy of bullet proof. I would remove the clutch cover for inspection and if nothing found I would then remove the primary gear so you can turn the engine by itself to try to isolate the problem.

Pulled the head to my beloved vfr and found smoked cams. Getting no oil pressure to the front side head. Cracked the line coming from the crankcase and nothing. Bare minimum I need a cam and probably rockers. Plus a reason for no oil pressure at the head. Oil pressure tester hooked up I have 65 pounds at idle and the normal 85 at 5k. Any ideas?

You weren't using a fram filter were you, some filters they made had little balls of silcone or what ever they glued the paper element to the end caps with (orange goo), the balls of crap got in a few engine internals.
