undecided on which bike to get. Have always loved the interceptors but also dig the rc51.
Have not had a street bike in over 20 years but now want 1.
Mostly a 2007 anniversary edition, but just talking to myself about it so far. I have always riden dirtbikes, wife cannot stand the thought of me getting a bike with the idiots on the road.

before you do ANYTHING, take the motorcycle safety course. you can find one local to you through Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

as for what bike to get, youre throwing around some pretty diverse choices. the RC51 is essentially a track bike with lights and mirrors, and really is for ppl 6' and taller (I'm 5'8" and i can barely stand on my toes at a stop). the incerceptors on the other hand are sport touring bikes. TOTALLY different animal. dirtbikes have given you a good feel for being up on 2 wheels, but believe me when i say riding on the street is a whole new ball game.

im being totally objective here when i say that you need to visit a few dealerships (honda, suzuki, kawi, yamaha, etc etc) and sit on some bikes to get a feel for what you feel is right and comfortable for you. also consider what the primary use for the bike will be (ie commuting, long trips, or just blasting around on the weekends).

this is a very loaded thread, and i strongly suggest you start from the beginning, which is to take the MSF course, get your motorcycle license, and buy the right gear.

good luck, and i hope you find the right ride for YOU!

Yeah you are right, I don't even know why i thought of a rc51, I almost bought a 88 cbr250 the other night but I am not a crotch rocket guy! I have always wanted a vfr700 or 750 back in the day.
But those colors on those 07's just set me off!!

well those are still pretty much 2 totally different bikes. the 2nd gen VFR's (ie the 700's and 750's that you had your eye on back in the day) were straight up sportbikes. VERY competitive in the races in the late 80s, but now are aging, and lemme tell ya from experience of owning an 87, these bikes have a personality all their own. as for that RWB 2007, I've had my own eye on that bike for a long time now. those bikes though, are very seasoned sport touring machines, with a modern look, modern feel, and modern technology.

both are fantastic machines, and to have to decide between the 2 would absolutely SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK (which is why in the end, i intend to own BOTH)

Is there any 1 better than the other on the 6th gens? And should I worry about 16,000 miles if all records of service are with it?
Cause I found a extremly clean and nice and priced rite at 4200.

The 06+ bikes have a slight advantage due to different vtec engagement and a few wiring bugs being sorted out.

16k miles is nothing. dont even sweat it. my 84 has 34, soon to be 35k on her odometer, and I have no idea how much of tht was dragracing too, no mechanical problems. by 06, Honda has worked a LOT of finesse in, and a great many bugs OUT. the 2nd gens are undeniably racing mchines, and still pretty swift. if tuned right, are also SMOOOOTTTTHHHHHHH torquey bikes.

the RC51 is another animal, purebred racebike with a 40k mile lifespan, by which point rebuild is needed. dont bother. oh and they're heavy, hard to work on, uncomfy POS's in my book. oh yeah, and they're VERY frustrating. once you modify the electrical in almost any way, you're GOING to have gremlins in an RC51. dont ask how I know all this. just dont do it.

Whoa there lad... don't give up on the Gen 2 VFR's.

I'm 5'10, medium build, 30" inseam, and - uh - well let's just say I qualify for the senior discount at most places. I just bought an '86 VFR750 and I have to say I've never owned a better motorcycle. It rides well, handles brilliantly, and has more power than anyone really needs. It's also quite comfortable compared with the hard-edge sport bikes of any era. Yes, they did win a lot of races 'back in the day' against the Gen 2 Suzuki GSXR750 and Yamaha FZ750 - neither of which was all-day comfortable the way the VFR was (and still is).

Check out my blog if you want more info (and some pics and a couple of vids).
