Seeing as I'm heading back to work in a week (I'm a teacher), I decided to plan a few short day rides this week before facing the reality of 6th graders....

First, let me say that I bought this bike back at the beginning of June as a second bike (my other bike is a '74 CB550). The VFR was supposed to be for longer trips on the highway and and just used on occasion. It just so happened that my 550 has been out of service most of the summer due to the tank being at the painters getting redone.....so i've had alot of time to get to know the VFR. I've fallen in love. What a comfortable bike to ride and it just handles great.

My first trip today was to Cataract Falls in Owen County, Indiana. Hadn't been there in about 10 years....so I figured I'd check it out. The bike performed great on the 150 mile round trip. What thrills me about this bike besides the handling and comfort is the mileage....today's mileage was 48MPG.....and a third to a half of the trip was on the interstate doing 75 to 85 mph heading home.

I love my old 550 because I get comments from folks every time I take it out..."I used to have one of those back in the 70s"....or "that was my first bike". As it turns out, this old VFR gets just about as much attention. I tell people that she's pushing 25yrs old and they are shocked.

    I love you VFR.

Next trip is planned for Wednesday.....Springfield, IL to visit Lincoln's Tomb.

After you spend more time on the VFR you'll wonder just why there's any reason to ride a 550 cuz it's absolutely an antique, obsolete ox cart in comparison, but does look classic when parked, which is where it belongs if you have that choice.

Looks great, these bikes make it to find a reason to go for a ride, I ride mine everyday when the weathers good. There's not many classics that offer a torquey great sounding V4, timeless looks. excellent fuel economy, comfort, reliability and easy handling.

Great looking bike! Thanks for what you do also. Teaching is no easy task but 6th graders! Good on you for taking on one of the hardes jobs possible. You are helping shape our future. Thank you for that.
