I picked up my 2008 VFR (brand new) 8 days ago after wanting one since I was 12 or 13 (I turned 44 this summer). This is actually my first bike— and I’m as cautious as I need to be— riding completely within my ability. Would you believe that in 300 miles (or so) I haven’t yet experienced the V-tec crossover? That’s the way it needs to be. Baby steps. I’ve been a long time Honda enthusiast, owning a couple Preludes (86 & 98), an Integra (94) Civic Si (06) and currently a Accord Couple EX-L V6 manual (08). This VFR is the cherry on top! I learned the very basics of riding on a Honda CX 500 many years ago (anyone remember the original Silver Wing?), but that was so long ago, I consider myself a total noob. I'm okay with that too. It's better to acknowledge one's greenness than to be too cocky. If anyone has any advice, I'm all ears!
Hey Jash. Congrats on the new ride and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you got the right mental attitude. That's always key in my opinion - and of course to "ride your own ride". You're VTEC isn't going to go away, so don't worry if you haven't used it! It'll be there when you need it. Have you considered taking any MSF courses? Well worth it. Seeing as this is your first bike - and not trying to talk down to you - make sure you give everything the once over. Get intimate with her so you know how things are supposed to look, feel and respond, so that if in the near future it doesn't feel that way, you have something to revert back to. If you don't have service records from the previous owner, I'd make sure you do all the "normal" stuff. Oil and all fluids should be changed. Check your chain tension. Check out the tires. Are they Dunlop's on there and what kind? The OE Dunlops were junk. If they are the originals, and you have some cash, get some new tires. Trust me/us on this one. Other than that, post up some pictures when you can enjoy.
Congratulations, great bike, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Welcome to the forum, lots of good information here.
